Your PIP award is ending claim again

Hi I'm really confused if anyone can help that be great as phoning PIP is a nightmare.
I have been having assessments for the last 10 years, recently had one in 2021 but I received a letter recently that I have to make a claim again which I've never had to do before and that it will be ending in June. They refused PIP in 2021 so I went to mandantory then I applied for an Appeal but the DWP phoned me up and gave it me back before the appeal went through which is called a lapse appeal.
Do I not get assessed anymore and have to keep claiming once my award time has passed? and if I claim again will my money be stopped after June until they make a decision?
Thanks. Jess

Also would like to ask how long new claims take? I haven't made a new claim in a long time so I'm not sure how long people are waiting now. Would the new claim make a decision before my award ends or is that unlikely?0

You should have been sent a review form rather than having to ring and reapply. You can ring PIP and tell them this.Either way, your existing PIP will continue until a decision is made. As you already have an award in payment then it could take several months at least but highly possible to be longer than this before a decision is made. You should expect another assessment as most people have them. They are mostly by telephone, some are face to face or video call.0

What would your advice be?
I got a letter saying that my award is ending and to claim again, I'll explain what the letters says
"We are writing to remind you that your PIP will end on June, we understand that you may still need PIP if your circumstances are the same or are worse. We want to help you to continue to claim if you need to."
"If you still need help with your daily living or mobility you will need to claim PIP again. Do this now before your current awards end"
Should I wait until there is an assessment letter? What if I don't receive one and they end my PIP on June and was expecting me to make another claim?
The letter doesn't sound like they're going to send me an assessment it sounds as if they're going to end my award and wanting me to claim again?0 -
The letter says you need to make a new claim which you would need to start by ringing the claim line. However as your existing award was made by DWP and not a tribunal you should have been sent a review form. Do as poppy says and ring the helpline and ask them to send a review form instead. If they refuse the expedient action will be to make a new claim0

The letter will be a standard letter regarding your PIP ending but as I advised it will just continue until a decision is made on the review.Usually if awarded by DWP they send review forms, rather than ask you to reapply. If you want the review forms sent you can ring PIP to ask why you weren’t sent a review form. Or just ring them to reapply as the letter advises.Either way, you will need to fill out forms and if you don’t ring your PIP will end.As I advised most people have assessments.0

Okay thank you
Is there any reason why they would deny my review forms if I called them and make me reapply for pip instead? just abit scared they might turn me down for a review and make me do as the letter asks. id much rather have a review as I am familiar to that
Sorry if Im repeating just wanting to know before hand what they might say before I phone cus calling them gives me anxiety
Also do you know if this has happened to anyone before?0 -
It's the same process, except the review forms are shorter. Even for reviews most people have assessments. I can't tell you if they will agree to send the review forms or not.It has been know for people to be awarded by DWP and needing to reapply. The same as some being awarded by a Tribunal and receiving review forms. If your last review was in 2021 can i just check that your current award has a review date on it or is it just an end date? If it's just an end date then it's correct that you need to reapply.0

It just says on the letter that "Your award will end on 29 June 2023" It doesn't mention anything about a review date, Im guessing when they reviewed me in 2021, when I had my assessment that this time they awarded me for just 2 years instead of assessing me every 3 years like they have been doing for a while.
I had read all the comments again and just trying to confirm but when you said "Either way, your existing PIP will continue until a decision is made" Do you mean that it will continue even after June? If a decision has not been made yet on my new claim will they stop my money on the 29th June and backdate it instead if I did get accepted? Just abit worried thats all that I won't recieve money after June if Im waiting for my new claim
Thanks0 -
This means that the letter you’ve received is correct and you will now need to do as the letter advises and ring to start another claim.
There are very very long backlogs for reviews and change of circumstances. Although you have been asked to reapply it’s still a review because you already have an award. Because of the backlogs they are extending awards if a decision isn’t made by the time your award is due to end. Although you will need to ring to reapply otherwise your award will just end. Once you’ve reapplied they will send you the forms.0 -
Thank you so much! Would it just be wise waiting until May/June to reapply as they will just extend the award anyway? Was thinking it might be better than reapplying now and they possibly might just review it before June and reject me anyway and I'll have to go through an appeal and lose money before June even comes!/reviewing me just after June possible and just rejecting me anyway. Just wanting more time for me to save up incase it comes to that case where I will lose PIP if they reject me anway and I'll have to wait for an appeal anyway0

Does the letter tell you when you need to reapply by?

tomm said:I was awarded ER mobility for 6 years ,as an offer prior to appeal The decision notice doesn't mention award ending, just says they will contact me 12mths or onwards which is before the end date to see if i still need pip etc, no mention of a review
That's usually what it says for reviews. Before the pandemic they would contact you 6 months before the award was due to end. It used to be 12 months before.

Only thing I can find is on the letter it says that "Apply before your current award ends" but it also says "It is important that you contact us as soon as possible to make a new claim. This will help us make a decision before your current award ends and if you are able to get PIP again your payments can continue" so does that indicate that they wouldn't extend the award since they said contact us as soon as possible or do they deffo extend it for everyone waiting?0
-
Usually because of the backlogs awards are being extended. If it was me then i wouldn't delay applying longer than a month. Doing it this way will give you some time to write/type some notes in preparation for receiving the form and to gather any extra evidence you have to support your claim. If it was a review you would have likely been contacted last year.1

No problem. When you receive the forms make sure you give as much information as possible (without telling your life story) Include a couple of real world examples of exactly what happened the last time you attempted each descriptor that applies to you.Include detailed information such as where you were, what exactly happened, did anyone see it and what the consequences were. You should aim for at least half an A4 side of paper per descriptor that applies.Make sure you include your name and NI number on everything you send. Only send copies and get proof of posting (free from any post office) when you return it. Always keep a copy of the form for yourself.1
