Any money that was owed to you for your PIP and SDP are both disregarded for 1 year.

For every £250 or part there of there will be a £1 per week deduction in your ESA. Once you reach the £6,000 you will need to contact ESA and report the changes. Your ESA will the reduce accordingly.

For savings of more than £16,000 all means tested benefits will end. PIP isn’t affected because it’s not means tested.

Once your savings drop below the minimum amount you can then ring them to report the changes. No, they will not have access to your bank account for this.

    Thank again Poppy.

In a few months I will probably be above the 6k and I don't like the idea of having to deal with DWP and being on hold etc to keep reporting and sending in statements of my balance.

Is it wise to finally replace some worn/broken appliances and doing things that have been needed to be done for years but I've not had the budget for?

Can I put x amount towards getting myself a little second hand run around for the days I do function so I can run errands etc? (Even if I don't get higher rate mobility?) Public transport is a big factor in my condition and I feel if I could get myself a little car, on the days I can't face the world I may still be able to get something done. I may be willing to get outside more and get to some private counselling appointments, to the gym, to do a healthy food shop.

I don't want it to look like I'm splurging but I've got by on only ESA for so many years and I've never been able to so much as treat myself, upgrade appliances, even upgrade my wardrobe.

Would as always appreciate your views!

    Thanks

When you have savings of less than £6,000 they are disregarded so what you spend that money on is entirely your decision.
If things need replacing then replace them. If you need a car then buy one. You don’t need to any specific reasons why you’re spending the money.
I have a small amount of savings and if I need something or even just want to treat myself then I do.
