Would like to discuss benefit sanctions

Adeline

Do you need help with a sanction @Signon or wish to discuss them more generally?

You will need to give more information for someone to be able to help you.

Hello @Signon

Welcome to the community!

How are you today? I see you want to discuss benefit sanctions? Is there a specific benefit you wanted to discuss?

Just to let you know, I popped your post into our Benefits and Financial Support section of the forum, in case you had any other questions or queries.

Then you maybe expected to attend work focused interviews to prepare to work in the future. Have you been sanctioned for not attending WFI's? Difficult to comment with no information given.

I was given a WFI appointment by post then they changed it at short notice to a phone appointment which i was on another call unfortunately so it has been reported to a decision maker so a bit anxious about this

poppy123456

If it was changed at last minute to a telephone appointment then I can’t see how you could be sanctioned for not answering the call.

Signon

It was changed on the Tuesday for the Friday WFI telephone appointment, i phoned them back but they said its deemed as been ten minutes late and now refered to decision maker what do you think poppy ?

poppy123456

That’s a decent amount of time to advise you of the changes and wouldn’t say that’s short notice. I have no idea what a decision maker will decide.

You mentioned previously, difficult to comment on a sanction with no information given ?

Was now hoping gave enough information now

Yes and then you gave more information. I can’t tell you what a decision maker will decide because I’m not a decision maker.

You said the appointment was changed at short notice but I don’t think a few days before the appointment is short notice. If it’s was changed on the day of the appointment then yes that would be short notice.

Signon

hi Have you ever been sanctioned ?

poppy123456

Yes I have but a very very long time ago, when my children were small.

Signon

That is terrible what did you get sanctioned for and for how long.
Any advice for me incase decision maker sanctions me ?

poppy123456

It was for a completely different benefit and about 18 years ago, can’t remember what is was for or how long sorry.

Have you now had your WFI? If so then there maybe no sanction at all. If you haven’t then you should arrange another appointment.

There’s information here on ESA sanctions. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/employment-and-support-allowance-sanctions/employment-and-support-allowance-sanctions-how-to-keep-your-benefit-payment
