edited February 2023 in Universal Credit (UC)
Hello
I've just joined the community and would like some advice if I may.
I suffered a stroke in Jan 2019 and was referred to DWP for a work assessment.
I was declared limited capability for work with work related activities.
I have not received any extra amount in my Universal Credit and have only just become aware that I maybe should have got an extra payment on my Universal Credit ? Now it’s Feb 2023 !

Thanks in advance for any thoughts

Are you claiming UC with a partner that already claims the LCWRA element on your claim? If so then you won't be entitled to it yourself because you can only receive one per claim.
If not, are you 100% certain that it was LCWRA you were found to have and not just Limited capability for work (LCW) ? You can go back onto your journal to check exactly what that decision was.

Hi thanks for replying. No I’m a single claimant with sole care of two boys. I have the letter it says I have been assessed as having limited capability for work and won’t need to look for work but will have to carry out work related activity.
    thanks

The letter for my assessment was added to my journal in July 2019 but I have never received anything other than my basic entitlement to Universal Credit

That tells me that you were found to have limited capability for work (LCW) and there’s no extra money for this.

If the decision was LCWRA then you wouldn’t need to look for work or carry our work related activities.

Hi I'm new to this community & new to having to use UC also.
Now my first sick note was 24/11/2022, my first UC payment was  25th Jan, I then had another sick note 04/02023 - 03/04/2023. I was requested to complete a questionnaire work capability assessment 11/01/2023 & received a letter stating I have limited capability for work and work-related activity on 11/02/2023....... Why is there a 3 month wait period? That means 1st payment would be in May or is it back dated to my original first sick note of 24/11/2022? Look forward to trying to make some sense of this 🤞🙏thanks in advance

@RJPar there’s a full 3 month waiting period and the extra money is paid from the 4th month after you reported your health condition. Its not paid at all during the waiting period. It’s the law and applies to everyone unless you’re claiming through special rules. The same also applied to ESA.

If your payment is usually on 25th of every month and you sent your first fit note on 24th November, you waiting period will be Dec to March.. LCWRA starts from assessment period March 18th to April 17th and first payment will be 25th April.

Confused by your dates here. Why did you have to wait so long for your first UC payment? Was it because earnings reduced it to zero?

@poppy123456 my first journal entry on UC was 19/12/2022  (I had zero earnings) (Assessment period: 19 December to 18 January 2023) mine was a difficult case as I had been out of country for some time, got very sick & was no treatment where I was, I had no choice but to come home or face the unthinkable....... I must say from the NHS - UC they have gone above & beyond to help me through this very difficult time, along with CAB & crisis UK, without their dedication & professionalism, I would be in even worse difficulties

@poppy123456 I was in hospital 11 Nov - 02 Dec, I was unable to move very well so I started making a claim online & was able to move slowly to go to 1st appointment on the 19th Dec at UC office

Not clear if your UC claim started on 19th Dec or at a date while you were in hospital.

Started 19th December, but my first sick note was dated 24th November (day of my operation)

The fit note starting 24th November is irrelvant because your UC claim didn't start until 19th December so that's the start of the waiting period.
