Remaining politically neutral during General Election 2024


Under guidance from the Electoral Commission and Charity Commission, it's important that Scope remains politically neutral during General Elections.

While we understand that this period will see many passionate discussions and do not want to discourage open discussion, we cannot allow discussions which are purely intended to influence voting.

Q. on listing all medical conditions

Hi I’ve got a query,

So I’m now suspected asthma and this goes along with GORD, IBS and my mental health conditions. 

If you’re applying, having a review for either ESA/UC or PIP, should you make them aware of all conditions? Or just the ones you feel prevent you from working or you need care needs for.

    All conditions. Though as you know it's not about a diagnosis.
    I would appreciate it if members wouldn't tag me please. I have all notifcations turned off and wouldn't want a member thinking i'm being rude by not replying.

    Exactly, which we've continued to advise you time and time again. The advice you receive isn't going to change regardless of how many times you ask.

    Hi @bluefox

    This seems to be an issue causing you a lot of excessive worry. I hope the assurances from Poppy, and our other members, can now ease your concern that you are doing anything wrong - you really aren't. 

    Is your anxiety something that you are getting help with? It sounds like you are ruminating on the benefits process, at the expense of your inner peace and speaking through coping strategies with your GP could be beneficial.

    2. Declaring a health condition or disability on an existing Universal Credit claim

    If you have already made a claim for Universal Credit, a new health condition or disability will need to be reported as a change of circumstances.

    You can report periods of sickness of up to 14 days as a temporary period of sickness.

    Changes to your circumstances

    You must report any change of circumstancesstraight away, including:

    • changes to your condition, for example it gets better or worse
    • a new health condition
    • any other changes, such as finding a job or moving in with a partner

    We've gone through all of this time and time again. You already have LCWRA so you do not need to report a new diagnosis/health condition or any worsening of condition. It's got nothing to do with a diagnosis.

    Starting work or moving in with a partner need to be reported.
