@chiarieds "Has anyone read Mervyn Peake's 'Gormenghast' trilogy? He was also an artist & book illustrator."

Yes I've read Gormenghast and I really enjoyed the first two books but I just couldn't get into the 3rd book and never finished it.  I think it was because the hero left Gormenghast and I wasn't particularly interested in what he did then.

I did watch a television programme of it a long time ago.  Can't remember now if it was a film or a series.  I can see on Google that there was a series made in 2000 but I'm sure what I watched was before that but not sure.  Anyway it was very good and made me get the books.

Ooooh - how did I forget Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier!!  I thought the film was good - but omg once I read the book, the film is nowhere near it.

Mrs Danvers will scare the pants off anyone!

@anisty -  yes Rebecca is one of my favourites too.  Have you read Rebecca's Tale by Sally Beauman?  It is the same story but from Rebecca's point of view.  I can really recommend it and I think it is certainly as good as Rebecca, in fact I think I like it more.  And Mrs Danvers is just as scary but not to Rebecca.

Has anyone read The Time Traveller's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger?  I loved it but if you read it you MUST pay attention to the dates and ages at the beginning of each chapter!  I was broken-hearted at the end.  I've never seen the film as I didn't want the story spoilt for me.  It didn't get good reviews.

An excellent book I'm reading at the minute is Candy by Luke Davies an Australian author, it's about a couple who become addicted to opiate drugs and their trials and tribulations. It was also made into a movie featuring Heath Ledger, a good read for people into the subject matter

@ShirleyW - I agree, I thoroughly enjoyed the first 2 books, & tho I read 'Titus Alone,' it was nowhere near as good as the other 'Gormenghast' novels. I watched the TV series, which I've just checked, & from some of the cast I remember, was in 2000. I had read the books prior to this, & enjoyed both.
