I've found this website whilst I navigate a change in the family dynamics following the death of my father in law who was the appointee for my disable brother in law. I am literally going round in circles so I hope I will get some sense here!

Hello @Rowilla
Welcome to the community. My condolences over the loss of your father in law. If you ever need any additional support Scope has a lot of bereavement advice.
You will need to contact the DWP, they may ask for a copy of the death certificate as they will close all accounts linked to your father in law. You will then need to appoint someone else for your brother in law. This can be a friend or family member or even an organisation like a solicitor or the local council. All the information for that is on the GOV website.0
