Hello , I have been an ambulatory wheelchair exerciser with a preference for taking part in road races. My spinal stenosis has got worse and I find myself spending most of my time in the chair now. I'm still struggling  to adapt to the changes I am going through

Hi there @runningal and welcome, thanks for joining the community :)

It can be difficult to adapt to changes like this, as they can impact our confidence. As a wheelchair user myself I can relate, and I hope that you can still be as independent as ever, just in a slightly different way. Are you being supported with managing your spinal stenosis?

What were your road races like, they sound really exciting!

Hi Alex, thanks for the welcome. I used to be a marathon runner ( I've completed 75 marathons) During COVID I had a long wait for a nephrectomy ( kidney cancer) and my consultant said I was too fat! Spurred on by this I took up wheelchair training and in 3 months lost 15kgs. I kept training and in October 2022 I successfully completed the London Marathon in my day chair ; raising £2000 for MacMillans. I have an ambition to reach 100 marathons doing the next 25 in my chair. I love the camaraderie and friendship you get at running events and as I am usually the only competitor in a chair I get lots of crowd support

That is fantastic! A big congratulations for raising so much for Macmillan's, that's a wonderful achievement.

We'd love to hear more from you about the goal to reach 100 marathons as and when :)
