Need help! So when I was 17 I was entitled to have a motability car obviously I didn’t have a driving liscene so my mom got the car. She then got a 2 year ban which now over. I went today to get a car in my own name as I have recently passed my test. My account was restricted they have told me to appeal against it by email which have done but abit confused as the ban is over plus it wasn’t even me that got the ban it was my mom. Which clearly means it’s like a complete new customer. Will I get the appeal? As I shouldn’t have to be punished for not my mistakes.

Secondly because you are close family they will no doubt have concerns that you could have similar issues in the future - it's a risk factor that they will see it as.
My neighbour had a Motability car and after clocking up 12 points in one year due to speeding offences (over 30mph) his car was taken off him and was refused another even after 4 years had gone by. He was still classed as a risk that they would not want to insure.0 -
2oldcodgers said:First of all I doubt that Motability would accept your mum as an additional driver. They are not asking about their mum being a named driver, they are asking about a mobility vehicle in their own name.@Ellsbells did you ask them why you were refused? Seems a little odd to punish you for something you didn't do. I would definitely challenge that decision.0

Yeah I asked them and they said after every ban you have to appeal to why u wanna be added back on. But I’m just confused to as why I have to do that when I’ve never had a car with them my mom had the car in her name but it was because of me and my pip she could have it so I’m not really sure. I’ve appealed tho so hopefully I do get it cus can’t imagine why the will punish me when it wasn’t me0

Let us know how your appeal goes @Ellsbells and if we can support you with anything in the meantime, please ask0

So this will be your second Motability car?
Are you trying to get your mum back on to drive the second car?

Yeah my mom was the driver on my account before as didn’t have licence but now I want it in my name. She was on a 2 year ban but that’s over anyway now so can’t see why that matters with my name0

Because I went to the car shop to get a car and they got everything sorted then at the end it said account restricted then the car deal ship rang motability rhemselfs and they say I have to send an email to appeal to why I want to re join the scheme0

Probably best for you to appeal it all telling them that your mum will not be allowed to drive any car that they supply.
By the way a 2 year ban is still both a serious insurance risk and that I believe that it will still be on her licence history for another 4 years.0 -
What about myself tho? Surly that doesn’t affect me as I was 17 at the time and didn’t have a licence I shouldn’t be punished due to her actions. Also she hasn’t been banned from driving completey just a 2 year ban of motability0

Basically somebody stolen her car and the police didn’t believe that someone stolen it cus she didn’t ring them In time but they generally did. So they took her car and she never got it back but she’s not banned from normal driving just a 2 year ban from motability but that ended like 7 months ago anyway but don’t want it in her name it’s in my name0

You keep saying "her car"; it was a motability car for you, therefore it was your car.I can`t say why they`ve banned her so long or why they won`t let you have a motability car, but I have seen various threads that show Motability are very strict with the rules around their vehicles.0

They emailed me back today asking who else apart from me will be on the car I said just myself and also which address and I gave them my new address so not really sure where it’s gonna go now hopefully this means I can get my car back.0

I don't think anyone here can answer your question. You will need to appeal it with motability by doing what you were advised to do.
