First appointment with neurology- what to expect?

Hi, after being diagnosed with long Covid 2 years ago I’ve been referred to a neurologist to help understand the pain/ loss of feeling in my hands and feet. Whilst I’m excited that something is finally happening I feel apprehensive as to what to expect. Basically the long Covid clinic won’t accept me till all other avenues have been exhausted (their words)! But the neurological symptoms are only part of my illness. Will the neurologist take into consideration my other symptoms? Tinnitus, brain fog, lethargy, mood swings. I can’t help worry that they’re only focusing on the physical pain and not all of my symptoms. Any advice?

    Hello @lollycat11

I haven't personally been to a neurology appointment before so I'm afraid I can't speak from personal experience. I've slightly tweaked the title of your thread to help make it more visible to others who may have been, and will tag it as 'unanswered' for the time being.

I would hope that a summary of your symptoms would be taken and noted by the doctor when they take your history, just so they have that holistic overview.

Please let us know how you get on. Wishing you well.

My first appointment was just information gathering. So they asked me a load of questions to determine what sort of tests they wished to conduct.

These were very 'yes/no' type questions and at the end in conversation I bought up a different symptom I'd been having and the neurologist asked why I hadn't mentioned it sooner but he hadn't asked. So if there's something you'd like to say, I'd recommend doing it, even if the question isn't directly asked as mine turned out to be relevant.

Go with a list of things you'd like explored or discussed so you don't forget anything.

    I hope it goes well.

Hi thankyou, I will definitely take a list of my other symptoms so they get an overall picture. Thanks for your advice.
