Assessment. Needs prompting... needs support to...

I've got my first assessment phone call in (now) less than an hour. I've been reading here and around and looking at the descriptors.  Is it me or are the descriptors open to interpretation?!   They are worded very poorly, right?

I do need prompting or support or supervision for most of the daily living items. There isn't actually anyone to prompt, support or supervise me.  How does that work? Or can you/do you take the questions very literally. I do need prompting, even though there is nobody to prompt, so therefore 2 points.

What if the assessors and the PIP decision maker's take on the question is that I need and therefore receive prompts from someone?

E.g. I need to eat something. I am not going to. I don't eat something. There was no prompting going on. Even if there was someone prompting, I still wouldn't do it.

Mm. OK. Much less of that hour to go and I have begun to realize how critical this is and how life changing an award would be (heat or eat, homeless, et al)

Thanks for reading. Sorry if I've asked how long is a piece of string.

    Hello Lottie1732
PIP is not about the help you get but the help you need and why you need that help.
So if you need prompting but do not get it then you need to say why you need that prompting, what health condition causes you to need that prompting and what would happen if you did not have prompting etc...
    Hope that helps.

Just to add the same applies to support or supervision.

Thank you @nasturtium and @Alex_Scope for your support.

Well I survived it I think.

Just over 2 hours after the call ended I got a text from DWP that they've got my report. Is that good ?
     Well, we'll find out!

Best Wishes to all going through this

The report being returned so quickly doesn’t mean anything at all, other than it was written and completed.

Good luck navalnurse. Write down as much as you want to. Doing that can make things clearer in your mind in preparation for the call. When I write my thoughts, then lots of other things I wouldn't have remembered otherwise come up. You could just explain that you've got some notes to refer to in case you get flustered during the call. The assessor probably has the same - refers to notes but also will be typing into a document (or something) whilst talking to you.

The only thing I would say is to take your writing and then see if you can put it into a numbered or bulleted list. You might only need to see a short sentence or some keywords to remind you of what you wanted to remember, that may have been half a page long.

I hope your caller is as sympathetic and thorough as mine was.

Everyone is allowed to refer to notes. Don't be afraid to use them. It  can be a long call so if you need a minute to gather your thoughts just let them know. They wont judge you on that.

If you are nervous, maybe someone can sit with you, even if they can't contribute directly?

    Take care
