1st Seizure

Good morning everyone. I had a seizure on Thursday and am still recovering but I don't know what to do next? If I tell you what happened any insights will be gratefully received.

I've never had an issue before except migraines and I'm 43 male. I was on a course Tuesday and Wednesday with an hour of driving. I had some coffee but on the way back driving I found myself blinking excessively which I thought was odd.

Then Thursday I popped over to Aldi to get some bits at lunchtime and felt a bit odd. I thought I was lightheaded because hadn't ate much that morning. When returned to my car it was like I was concentrating on something but not seeing it clearly. Walked into work and felt even weirder like spaced out. I then muttered "oh sht" to myself as I passed out and was cushioned by a coworker.

Next thing I remember is me coming around very confused with paramedics over me. I went very stiff apparently, shook a bit then after 5 minutes started snoring. Inwent to hospital and had a CT scan and blood tests which were all fine.

My mouth is in pieces, apparently I was bleeding from the mouth I think I bit my tongue pretty badly as I still can talk or eat today. Also my back is in real pain as I must have hit something on the way down.Doctors haven't said much I left hospital 6 odd hours after it had happened and someone will be in touch for maybe an MRI. They may have said more but indont think I took it in.

It's never happened before. I've not been diagnosed with anything like this. My sister developed epilepsy in late teens but I don't keep in contact with her.

Can anyone offer any advice? Am I now not meant to drive even if it's some one off thing? Will it happen again? While I await any posts I shall have a good read of the forum.

As I haven't been diagnosed with epiliepsy I didn't want to just on another thread.

🙏 Thanks

I can't give any medical advice because it's against the rules here, as we are not medical professionals. If you have any concerns while you wait for the MRI if it's needed then you should speak to your GP. No one can predict whether you'll have another, even a medical Professional.

Regarding driving because you had a seizure and you lost consciousness then you must inform DLVA and your license will need to be returned and you won't be able to drive. Once you are seizure free for 1 year you can reapply. I'm very surprised you were informed of this by your GP/Dcotors. https://www.gov.uk/epilepsy-and-driving

I have seizures  on and off all my life but it's not as regular so not classed as epilepsy but this is because my other conditions that I have. Now I have heard that the golden rule for everyone else is if you have 2 seizures then they will go down the route of epilepsy. Please note I  followed the necessary procedures for epilepsy but I don't have it as tests came back clear.

Hello @Delmonte How are you feeling today?

I'm sorry you had a seizure for the first time, I imagine you are feeling pretty shook up and bewildered by it. I hope the MRI appointment won't be too far away and will provide some answers as to why it happened, and an appropriate treatment plan that can help if needs be.

In the meantime, I'd consult with your GP as to activities to further avoid, to keep yourself and others as safe as possible. Take it easy and go gentle on yourself.

We're here if ever you want to chat  :)
