I have been on pip for a number of years now. In july 2021 i received my pip review form. The citizens advice bureau helped me with my review forms. I sent them off at the beginning of september . I had a telephone assessment on the 1st March 2023. On the 28th i received a back payment in my account ,a few days later i received another back payment. I am still waiting on my decision letter from them. Judging by the monthly award i have been given it looks like I've been awarded enhanced mobility and standard care, when i first went on pip i was on standard mobility. What is my situation now regarding housing benefit and council tax . I have a non dependant son who's 21 and lives with me and works. We pay rent at the moment cos of my sons earnings. Im also getting ESA in support group ,i have been for about 12 years.I live alone with my son and suffer from EPILEPSY ,severe anxiety and depression. I really need your advice cos i don't know what to do. \

If your PIP now includes the daily living part and it didn’t previously then there will not be any non dependent deductions for your housing benefit. https://england.shelter.org.uk/housing_advice/benefits/housing_benefit_deductions_when_living_with_non_dependants
When you receive the decision letter you’ll need to report the changes to your local Authority. It should be backdated to the start of your new PIP award.

I am waiting for my decision letter but I've received 2 back payments which now take my savings over the £6000 I already had .
Am I right in saying that the back payments will be disregarded from savings by the DWP and the council for 52 weeks?

So do I just need to contact them when I receive the decision and I assume they'll want me to send a copy into them

You will need to contact them regarding your PIP decision but you won't need to send them anything. DWP often share information with a Local Authority but you still need to contact them because you'll no longer have any non dependant deductions.

With my local Authority they usually confirm it directly with DWP.

A PIP award doesn’t automatically entitle you to 100% CTR. Most working age people have to pay a small amount. Although it does depend on your local Authority. As they all have their own rules I won’t be able to give advice on this, sorry.

It's unlikely you will get 100% council tax rebate, there is a disability reduction but in order to qualify you need either

An extra bathroom or kitchen or other room as a result of your disability or

Extra space inside the property for using a wheelchair.  PIP is not relevant for this reduction.

The majority of councils do not give 100% reductions even with the above disability reduction and will usually require some payment of CT. In fact many councils do not offer any discount for claiming PIP at all. Speak to your local council.
