Hi all I've looked through lots of posts on here but can't see a an answer .Sorry if ive  missed one .
The question is pip after total hip replacement. I suffer with painful atheritis in my left hip .I managed to get pip awarded after 18 months of battling and finally the court deciding in my favour.
The 18 months back pay have just been paid and I have just had the 2nd 4 weekly payment .
6 months ago the specialist put me on a fast track for a hip replacement. I  have the operation next week .
Now do I report the operation as a change as soon as its completed .When I have recovered say 3 months or so .Or leave it until the review date they gave me .
I don't want to leave things and get a fine or have to pay back a lump sum if I don't do whats required.

Thanks for any help given

You do not need to report anything once the op is completed. You only need to report the changes if in the future the op improves your disability to such a point you can no longer score enough of points needed for an award.

Thank you Poppy123456 for answering. So basically. After surgery its a how long is a piece of string scenario, if at what ever time I get recovered to a better state of health.I would notify at that point .If  the review date they have given comes sooner and I haven't improved then I assume I would state no change .do I need to inform them at this time or any that I have had surgery?

At the moment there's no changes to report. Having surgery isn't a change of circumstances that needs to be reported.

surely after a total hip replacement you cannot walk and then can claim 12 points for “Can stand and then move more than 1 metre but no more than 20 metres, either aided or unaided”??

This thread is more than 1 year old and the member hasn't been active since. To answer your question, no you are not correct. For PIP you must expect the difficulties to last at least 9 months. After someone has had surgery it's only natural for them not to be able to walk, which means they would not score any extra points for that. Which is why I advised at the time that there would be no changes to report.

Hi, Can I come into this conversation at the back end. Similar situation, but would like clarity on my thinking!

I, too, have had a thr. At my face to face PIP, advisor had a letter from my osteo consultant advising that a THR would be taking place. No date was given but letter made it sound imminent. I have other disabilities/medical problems that affect my mobility and care, and regarding mobility my main problem & always first stated was my lower lumbar, & other matters. I was awarded enhanced for both and for 10 yr ongoing period.

If, it was just my hip that was the problem, and bearing in mind that my consultants letter, letting dwp know that my thr would be sooner rather than later, would I have received such an award, or would it have been a short award? And, am I (hopefully) correct in thinking, it is my other & additional health problems that, thankfully, resulted in receiving such an award?

Thanks for reading & again, for allowing me to tag on the end of this post.

How long your award length is for will depend on how your conditions affect you. It's not awarded based on any diagnosis. People receive various award lengths ranging from 9 months - 10 years, with 10 year ongoing being the longest award before a light touch review is given.
