I am currently on esa support group,,, I am 65 and reach 66 February 2024...ihave received a letter from local council informing me that 2 days after my 66th birthday my housing benifit will stop, and I would have to claim UC to get housing benefit. My wife is 63 and not state pension age..... I would like to know if I have to claim UC a few month before February 24 or wait till I get pension. If I claim UC will I get lcwra eliment in payments if I claim....

If you are the main claimant for the ESA claim then this will stop when you reach state pension age. To claim for help with any rent you will need to claim UC.You should claim this before you reach state pension age, doing so will mean that you'll be entitled to the LCWRA element from the start of your claim.Your state pension and any other pensions you may receive will reduce your UC £1 for £1.Are you claiming a disability benefit such as PIP daily living or DLA mid/high rate care? if so does your wife claim carers allowance?0
