Hello Jennie, Thank you for taking the time to talk to the Online Community. Would you like to introduce yourself?
Hi Hannah, thank you for having me, I am an Employment Adviser with the support to work team. Although I only started to work with Scope in January this year, I have over 15 years of experience supporting disabled people into work. My lived experience of disability allows me to have a good insight to the challenges we face in the workplace and its great to see the help that Scope is able to provide.
What does Scope’s Support To Work Service do?
Support To Work is here to support disabled people in their journey to work. It’s a 12 week digital programme designed to build confidence when identifying skills, review CV’s, help with application forms, prepare for interviews, help identify adjustments that would help you gain and keep a job. We also are able to help you build your confidence to disclose your disability with an employer, this helps them to under the adjustments that will support you in work.
As part of the programme you also have the option to sign up for our digital learning platform Learn at Scope, this contains a number of short bitesize courses on employability. You can learn what you want, when you want.
You also get an Employment Adviser who you will meet on a regular basis. Together you will design the support that you need through the programme. Once you have a job start, our fantastic Support To Work team will be able to support you for up to 26 weeks, ensuring that you have the best chance to retain employment.
There are many sections under Scope’s Employment Services. Support To Work offers Employment Advice, A 12-week Support Programme, in Work Support for up to 26 weeks and Learn at Scope. Can someone access all of them?
Yes if you sign up for Support To Work you will be able to access all the programme has to offer, However, you can’t access the modules independently. For example if you are in work and want In Work Support we can’t currently help you with that.
What may people not know about Scope’s Support To Work Service?
Support To Work is a free service open to anyone age 16+ living in England or Wales, who has a disability.
What is the best part of your role?
The best part of the role for me is seeing individuals grow in confidence in their skills and possibilities. Its so good to see those light bulb moments when people realise that their disability gives them something extra that other don’t have and that will help them be more compassionate, have a different view on life that makes their skills unique.
With many people wanting to get back into work, what piece of advice would you give to those looking for work?
The workplace is crying out for fresh views so celebrate your skills and lean into your disability, think about the way you do your life and how that might help you find a unique role. We often under value our resilience as disabled people, the workplace can learn a lot from us.
Thank you so much for introducing yourself, Jennie 😊 It's been amazing getting to know you and your team at Support To Work.
Let's all welcome Jennie and @SupportToWork_Scope to the Online Community 🥳👏

Hello @Biblioklept
Everything is online and on the telephone, you don't meet them in person. You can also ask for adjustments such as for a British Sign Language interpreter to join via video call.
