MR – LCW (UC) descriptor 13
Hi all,
New here and hoping someone can help. Awarded LCW, explanation gives zero points for descriptor 13 (on UC50 is ‘Starting and Finishing tasks’), which is a huge surprise as that was the one in particular I thought I would get 15 points on!
Makes me wonder if I have misunderstood. What do they count as personal tasks?
I thought it meant – showering, doing washing up, doing laundry, going to supermarket, answering emails, cooking from scratch etc. All of which I can't do on a bad day.
In assessment I did say on a bad day I can make coffee and prepare meals (reheating not cooking from scratch).
And on an intermediate day I said I might be able to force myself go to the supermarket. So then does that mean they are counting getting dressed and going to the supermarket as 2 things and that is why I got zero points?
The assessor asked if I could do anything after that and I said I might be able to put a couple of things away (I didn’t specify that I would have to rest for several hours first).
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Kurt

The activity is 2 sequential personal actions for example..1. Choosing which meal you are going to prepare and cook, maybe selecting a recipe. Preparing the ingredients as required. Cooking the ingredients in the correct order and for the required time. What was the decision of your WCA? You don't receive any extra money for LCW.0

Hi there,
Thanks for the reply. The decision of my WCA was LCW, which I know you don’t get extra money for that is why I am considering the MR in the hope I would be awarded LCWRA.
What you describe as 2 personal actions, that example in particular, is something I cannot do on a bad day, but might be able to do on an intermediate day.
Thanks,
Kurt

For LCWRA it’s not about scoring points. You just need to satisfy one of the LCWRA descriptors. You can see them here. For this it would be activity 11. https://www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/universal-credit-uc/uc-faq/limited-capability-for-work-related-activity0

Thanks Poppy. Yes, I had seen those, and I did think I would satisfy number 11 due to the mental fatigue that I experience, which is why I was surprised to only get LCW. That’s why I was asking, in case I had misunderstood, in case the fault was with me. I’m just confused about what they wrote in the explanation, since they said I can go to the supermarket on my own and they didn’t go into as much detail as they did in the sections where they awarded me points. I’m just scared and it’s such a risk! Thanks for your help.

The most likely outcome of the MR will be the decision stays the same. There's more chance of a decision in your favour at Tribunal stage, providing you either appear in person, or have a video/telephone hearing.
