The person you spoke to is not correct with the advice they gave.

You can claim New style ESA if you have the correct NI contributions in tax years 2020/21 and 2021/22.

The ESA will be deducted in full from any UC entitlement so there’s no financial gain to claiming it but you won’t lose the LCWRA element of UC.

Although it’s deducted in full it’s still worth claiming the ESA because you will receive class 1 NI credits and it’s not means tested so any savings/capital and pensions of up to £85/week are all ignored.

I would appreciate it if members wouldn't tag me please. I have all notifcations turned off and wouldn't want a member thinking i'm being rude by not replying.
If i see a question that i know the answer to i will try my best to help.

Thankyou so much Poppy for your help.  I have the correct NI contributions so I will continue with the claim.
