Im on UC and from this month get Lcwra. my work have just stopped paying me ssp and advised me to claim ESA. Someone has called me from the job centre today and said that my Lcwra will stop if i get ESA and do I want to continue with the claim. I have no idea what to do or how any of it works is can someone explain it to me ?

The person you spoke to is not correct with the advice they gave. You can claim New style ESA if you have the correct NI contributions in tax years 2020/21 and 2021/22.
The ESA will be deducted in full from any UC entitlement so there’s no financial gain to claiming it but you won’t lose the LCWRA element of UC.Although it’s deducted in full it’s still worth claiming the ESA because you will receive class 1 NI credits and it’s not means tested so any savings/capital and pensions of up to £85/week are all ignored.0 -
Thankyou so much Poppy for your help. I have the correct NI contributions so I will continue with the claim.0
