Inheriting a pension

Does anyone have experience of applying as a dependent for the purpose of inheriting a parent’s private pension?

I’m especially interested in those with autism and/or mental health issues.

My parents both have private pensions (Police and NHS) which state that an “adult dependent child” may inherit 1/4 of the pension when the parent dies.

The paperwork for both pensions mentions that to get this status the adult child needs to get a doctor to say they have never worked, and are unlikely ever to work.

While I retain a grain of hope that one day I will be able to work, never working remains a strong possibility.

Is it simply a case of asking (convincing?) my doctor to sign a form?

Any info or experiences appreciated.

You could certainly chat to your GP about it @66Mustang, I don't think there's harm in having a conversation. 

Beyond that, I'm afraid I'm not sure what else to advise, so I'm sorry I can't be more help at the moment!
