Have a biographical telephone appointment coming up - what to expect ? Is it purely an ID check for my claim or something more ?

Just an ID check, should be a nice, quick and easy phone call.

Thank you. I think I must have clicked the wrong box during the UC online application process - I had no option to upload any ID evidence. I guess the biographical call comes off the back of that. Will update.

Call went fine but I had to go into the JC the following day with identity documents.

Not sure why I had the tel appointment in the first place  - it didn't establish anything. Just kept someone busy.

It does seem somewhat pointless to have a telephone appointment to verify your identity and then have to go in to do it anyway! I'm glad it is all sorted now for you @JonnycJonny

    Morning folks

My partner and I are to be receiving a Biographical appointment by phone nest week mainly as we only had one form of picture ID each, also as my partner has PTSD and CPTSD and so the gentleman we spoke with suggested the Biographical call as my partner cannot cope with attending a face to face appointment any idea what those questions maybe so I can be organised, or as organised as I can be pertaining to what we maybe asked as I will taking over the call where they need to speak to him during the first part of that call which as already been agree will be ok so really I will be verbally answering on his behalf then directly after my own par of the call so any insight would be rather helpful 😍

hi I’m getting a biographical appointment to as I didn’t have photo id but I have birth certificate, rent card etc and other bits but was no upload option . It’s a migration over to universal from esa . I’m in support group of esa with enhanced premium etc . I have severe ptsd and anxiety so I wrote on journal I can’t attend job centre due Id die if they tried to make me I can’t even attend my gps majority of time and I get phone calls if my doc and my meds sent to me . So will they just ask me questions and maybe let me email other documents I have or upload etc . I’m past myself . I get so stressed at these kind of things . Thank you in advance .

I had a biographical phone call for my migration to UC. The man who phoned me was lovely. He rang early but asked if it was ok to continue or if I wanted him to call back later. He asked me my full name, date of birth and current address, which benefits I currently claim and my previous address. And that was it - he was happy I was me! He then asked if I wanted my rent paid directly to my landlord and for me to be paid twice monthly and he set this up. He told me that I could now request an advance if I was struggling with the gap and told me how to do this. The only problem I had was that he said they can’t verify my bank account over the phone and he asked if I could manage to pop in to the jobcentre reception with it anytime I wanted. He told me when the quieter times were and I managed to do this. Again, the lady on reception was lovely.

my partner and i have one of these biogeo phone calls, and im having to talk for my partner as she cant speak and is petrified of using the phone anyway!

its a migration from esa to uc call btw

tbh im as nervous as heck (ive not done a dwp phone call in years!) and we really need this money/benefit to live on!

if they need me to drop stuff off at the job center thats impossible as we are both housebound (my partner needs 24/7 care and im her carer as no local agencies will take on her "case" and we cant afford it anyway!)

i think the prob was when filling in the form online there was a q about loans, i clicked the skip q for now link and it stopped me carrying on! ive never had a loan but there was no never had a loan option!

we both get pip on highest levels, and up to this uc stuff both had esa, and i get carers allowance, also we get max housing and ctax benefits.

i guess the pip and ca wont matter towards the uc but the rest will! im just scared we wont get uc at all or it'll be way lower than our combined esa/housing/ctax benefits per month! we are near breaking point financially anyway as we are on 100% benefits and zero other income!

Carers Allowance is deducted in full from your UC award. PIP has no impact.

Council Tax Reduction is decided on at a local level and each local authority has different rules. Some treat UC differently to legacy benefits and some people have seen an increase in the amount they need to pay towards CT.

You could try a benefits calculator to estimate UC award, or speak to Citizens Advice who have a dedicated Help to Claim service.

wew biogeo phone call done 😁🎉 i think it went well, they said they would get in touch at the end of the processing period (prob not the right wording of it! but its some time period!!) at which point we would be told how financially messed up or improved we are benefits wise!

they mentioned one or more of our benefits was impacting the uc claim! i think its mainly the esa (which the uc is meant to be migrated to from it!) which surely would be terminated after our "last" esa payments before the start of uc?! also im guessing my carers allowance messes it up too (surely that gets merged into the uc claim?) ive read and reread their help pages and now im even more baffled! 😂😂😂

plz tell me im just having a crazy moment and ive answered my own question?! 😂😂😂

As advised Carers Allowance gets deducted in full from your UC award. It's a seperate benefit and not one of the 6 income related benefits UC is designed to replace.

You will probably be eligible to receive Carers Element of UC, £201.68 which gets added to your entitlement before Carers Allowance & any New Style ESA gets deducted.

See this thread for information on New Style ESA which may or may not be applicable:

my apologies it seems i didnt spot your first reply (more like read it but it didnt click!) so ill read up on the links etc.

i think i was stressing (very wrongfully!) about the phone call! tbh compared with past dwp calls this was utterly chilled out! 😂 granted i thought id messed it up at one point but after i told the guy (gary) that i thought id messed up the question he asked, he just said nope, your doing really well! definitely a good one 😁🎉🎉
