Using Baclofen

Hello, I am dealing with increasing pain & tightness in my right hip due to my CP. I'm 56. Along with exercises from a physio, I have been prescribed 30mg of Baclofen daily. I find this helpful, but not enough for the level of pain in movement I now have. I would like to ask others who use Baclofen about their experience of the drug. Is there a way of using it which would help me more? Thank you!

Hi @BelleBee52 thanks for your query. I don't have experience of of using Baclofen myself, although my physio has recently encouraged me to speak to my GP about it, so I'd be interested to know how you get on.
I know that the impact of Post-Impairment Syndrome is more likely as we age with CP, and it's becoming more of an issue now as I move into my 30s.
For now, I'm going to tag my colleague @Richard_Scope who is our CP information officer, and knows a lot more than me!

Hi @BelleBee52
Baclofen is very useful for easing the muscle tightness you mentioned but does not address pain directly. The pain you are experiencing is likely caused by wear and tear and years of the tight muscles pulling on the hip joint itself.
You might want to speak to your G.P. and neurologist about Tizanidine and Baclofen. Tizanidine can have strong side effects though, so you must seek advice from a health care professional.0 -
Thank you very much, that is very useful indeed. I will get in touch with my GP.0
