... after months of being prepped by my Psychologist ... finally had my first session of EMDR ( Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) for PTSD today.
Absolutely brutal. It brought up things I didn't remember remembering about the rape and torture; traumas I'd forgotten about not linked to the actual PTSD trauma and all of which have been ringfenced to work through after working through the EMDR
I feel absolutely drained emotionally but weirdly euphoric. Not to mention got my Fibro' yinging at about an 8/9 (I'm sure my nerve endings are glowing )
Who'd have thought following a moving finger with your eyes could be so powerful on the brain
Months of hard work ahead, but every journey starts with the first step
Have any other users got experience of EMDR therapy ?

Hi @WelshBlue thanks for sharing your experience of EMDR, I've just moved this post over into our mental health category, so it's a bit easier for other members who have also had EMDR to reply
Well done for taking this first step, it sounds exhausting! I hope you can rest up this weekend now?1 -
Thanks for moving it and the kind words @Hannah_Scope
Was certainly a weird sleep last night ... nightmares mixed with unicorns. And me in a dress
Had a relaxing day today and off for a spin out tomorrow.
Hard times ahead mentally but all for a good resolution. The brain is a wonderful organ how it can be reset.0 -
Hello @WelshBlue. Thank you for sharing your experience of EMDR therapy. Did you sleep any better last night?1
-
Hi @Adrian_Scope ... I did thanks.
As a bit of an insomniac anyways, I had my best sleep for ages and for the first time in 3 months was up out of bed at 6.30 and still feeling good 11 hours later
It's only the first stage/ step and a long way to go emotionally etc wise but it's good to feel some positivity in an ocean of what's been negativity1 -
So glad to hear you are sleeping better @WelshBlue. How are you feeling after a better night of sleep? Glad to hear you are, finally, feeling some positivity in the ocean of what's been negativity - let's hope it stays this way along the journey0

Thanks @L_Volunteer ... sleep has been sporadic all week. Good and bad To be expected apparently. My sleep has been rubbish for years what's a few more months lol
Onwards and forwards ... second session today and I actually made it through an hour and a half.
Tears and rictus grins and right now can't stop yawning.
Next week may be a bit of a barsteward I've been warned as the brain processes stuff and flashbacks smack me around ... but my Psychologist is fantastic and gotten me to where I can cope
... just got to get rid of the negative energy of the hate and anger I feel at 3 people ...0 -
It sounds like things are progressing relatively well @WelshBlue thanks for the update Glad to hear you have a fantastic Psychologist supporting you as well.0
