How long does it take to secure studio council flat once you have been accepted onto register?

Only recently got accepted onto the housing register, I have 100 points independent living/MOP, and have been waiting almost 2 years since I moved into my hostel.

I know the real answer is, it can vary. For example there’s a single one bedroom place up for bidding right now that has zero bids that I could technically bid for, but it’s a tiny flat in a really really horrible estate, and it’s HA not council. Hence why no one else has bid on it yet.

I’m not demanding or entitled by any means, I’m happy for a double room studio flat. I’m currently bidding in RBKC, just wanted to know how long as a single person I could be expected to wait given my current circumstance. Is there typically less competition for studio flats compared to 2/3 beds? Because I see some of the 2/3 beds with between 100-200 bids which is just insane. If I had to compete with that many people for a studio I would never be able to move out due to my points.

Thank you so much for your reply, I’m really grateful you gave me that information.

I saw on the recent housing allocation policy to be put forward that people who were after studios/1 beds on average took between 2 years 4 months and 3 years 2 months. Again this is an average wait time. And I know that it says over 2000 homeless households but that could also include families who are after 1/2/3 beds? I’m mainly going for studios tbh

I’m also actually in the Move-on-priority section, I didn’t realise there’s only 65 people in that category and I heard a rumour, that people in MOP priority overtake those with homeless priority? I’m not 100 percent sure but if that’s true then that’s extremely promising for me I guess. Especially as I’m approaching 2 years on the housing register. I hope I can secure something within the next year.

Hopefully, you can secure something soon @Noorudean. I would ask if you feel comfortable asking them who they prioritise but they likely would not provide you with this information, even if they knew the answer I am afraid. Other than studios, are you open to the idea of any other accommodation at the moment? This might also, hopefully, speed up the process

Hi @L_Volunteer, thank you. Actually I recently found out about FOI requests (Freedom of Information). The council are obligated to provide you a response in 30 days, and you can ask them for all the different kinds of information you want. So I’ve sent mine off and will hopefully hear back in a few weeks.

As I am a single person I am also entitled to studios or one bedrooms, with regards to private rental that’s out of the question as I’m looking for something more secure long term,
