I was awarded pip [basic living allowance] for long term anxiety and depression and  I've never been able to hold down a full time job,I feel I would like to give part time work a go just one or two nights and see how that goes ,I'm on UC and it say's I can earn £379 a month without it affecting my UC,my question is am I able to work part time because I'm claiming pip for mental health? is there a chance it could affect it if so I wont bother,

There's no rules against working when claiming PIP. People do work while claiming it. However, if the work you do contradicts the reasons why you're claiming PIP then it can go against you at your next review.

For UC the £379/month refers to the work allowance allowance, if you're claiming for help with any rent. You will only be entitled to this if you either have children on your claim or you've been found to have limited capability for work. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/universal-credit-work-allowances/universal-credit-work-allowances

If you start working you must report the changes for your UC by reporting a change of circumstances. The same applies to UC, if you've been found to have either LCW or LCWRA then if the work you do contradicts the reasons why you're claiming this then it can go against you at your next review.

Yes that’s correct but as I advised it will not apply to you unless either of these reasons apply.

    3. Work Allowance

In some cases, you may be eligible for a work allowance. A work allowance is the amount that you can earn before your Universal Credit payment is affected.

You will be eligible for a work allowance if you (and/or your partner) either have:

    • responsibility for a child
    • limited capability for work

You will only have limited capability for work if you’ve been through the work capability assessment.

If you have been found to have LCW then the Work Allowance will apply to you.

What poppy has said is correct. The Work Allowance only applies to those with children or who have LCW or LCWRA.

Ok thanks 😊 do you think it’s best to phone pip up and tell them I want to trial a part time job? Or tell my work coach on UC? I don’t want it to affect my pip as I don’t know if I will be able to keep up the job long term but I would like to try.

You don't need to ring PIP to tell them that you're going to start working, it's not a change of circumstances that needs to be reported.

If you do start work then you will need to log into your journal for UC and report a change of circumstances and then click "work and earnings" and then tell them that you've started working. You should only do this once you start work and not before.
