£1000 over payment need help please

Last year I wrote a post here about advice regarding telling benefits my pension was starting. I received great advice and told all the various benefits accordingly.
I received a letter a week or so after I told them, saying due to a recent change etc and told me what my new amount would be.
Fast forward to this year a few weeks ago I was sent a letter saying there was an over payment of £1000, this is starting from the date I told them about the change due to my pension, and they said the payment went on for about 8 weeks. They also say in the letter the amount shown is not necessary the final amount.
I do not understand how I owe them this as I told them about the change and they adjusted my benefits accordingly at the time, I have the letter saying due to a recent change.
Is this a mistake? please advise me what I should do.
Thank you.

What benefit is the overpayment to do with?0

Hi calcotti , its ESA

It's difficult to advise without more information. How much ESA and pension do you receive?

If you informed you about new pension and they took 8 weeks to action the information he could try and argue it is official error and should seek to recover the overpayment. On the other hand they will said you should have realised that you were being overpayment.
However, you didn’t say what type of ESA you get. If it is new style ESA then any overpayment is recoverable even if it is DWP error.

It is old style ESA, thing is I didn’t know to inform them I was getting to much, as I received a letter saying about a change with a different ESA amount to what I was getting prior to me letting them know about the pension, so I assumed they had altered the money correctly. How do I argue my point affectively that I did inform them about my pension.
