    @Hannah_Scope

    It's a chase letter from an energy company - debt.

    It means any payments made by the time their offices close on 18th May will be counted as being received on time, the 3 days clearance time is quite standard and the energy company wouldn’t contact you until those additional 3 days have passed anyway. Just noticed that it’s the 14th July, was getting confused then :D

    Thanks, I've read that to mean they will only consider payments up to the 18th May. Literally because that's what it says.

    Have they made a typo and it's meant to say July instead of May?

     No, the issue is the wording, 'Payments are considered until close of business: 18th May 2023' . So you have until the 18th May to pay, after that they'll do whatever etc, etc.
    The email is sent 3 days after the 18th May deadline has passed. It's not clear at all.

    Surely it means they've waited to see if you paid on the 18th (giving 3 days for it to clear) before contacting you?

    They wouldn't know if the payment had been made before the deadline otherwise.

    I see what you're saying, that you couldn't possibly pay before the deadline by the time the email arrived, but I guess they must have sent another email or letter giving you that deadline previously?

    No they didn't. Thanks for the feedback, that's really helpful and constructive.
