I'm married and receive carers allowance for looking after my hubby who gets enhanced PIP he has dementia and fractured veribrea, I have a long low rate dla, now as my health is worsening and considering applying for PIP, is it likely that my PIP claim will consider my dla details? Or should I just tell dla my health is making my life difficult and in more pain ,report change of condition,  will this automatically start a PIP claim as dla finishing in 2025.
Any help and advice would be so welcome. Thanks Heather

You should think very carefully before making a claim to PIP, DLA will continue until a decision is made but if PIP is refused then there’s no going back. Do you receive a lifetime award? No one knows when these will finish (it’s a different process to other legacy benefits). I recommend you get specialist advice on this first.

If you were born after 9th April 1948 then you can’t report changes to DLA because it no longer exists.

You will need to start a claim for PIP. PIP is completely different to DLA and it doesn’t mean you’re automatically entitled to PIP because you’re claiming DLA.

When claiming PIP you will be sent the PIP2 forms to fill in and return with all your evidence. It’s very likely that an assessment will be needed as most have them.

Before starting a claim you need to at least try to understand the PIP descriptors and what they mean. Or get some expert advice from an agency near you and use the link provided above to see what advice agency is local to you.

I do have experience of PiP,  I did my husband's claim,  which I took to tribunal and won! So know the descriptors,  thanks for the info
