Esa inheritance issue

I get esa but things are pretty bad, my special needs son lives with me, we've got no oven, no washing machine, no gas, no carpet, no draining board. I don't have any shoes. We've struggled, now I'm due to get 30,000 apparently from my dad who wasn't around. I couldn't afford to go to hospital and back (cancer) so didn't go for treatment as far as I can tell, within months with rent, the rest, the money would be reduced down by half which puts me back under the savings threshold. But esa will think I've purposefully spent it to get benefits won't they? So weird, I've been in shock over it, troubles over but then it turns out it also throws up problems. Also I'm disabled, genetic issue so I've not been off legacy esa in years, Im not sure what other things I should be paying, council tax and rent is the only things I could think of, are there more? Thank you for your time.

Once the money goes into your bank you will need to report the changes and all your means tested benefits will end, this includes housing benefit, council tax reduction and and any Income Related ESA you maybe claiming. If any part of your ESA is contributions based then this will continue because it's not means tested. Once your savings go below £16,000 you can then reclaim but you will need to claim Universal Credit for help with any rent. For council tax reduction some local Authorities have a maximum savings limit of £6,000 before council tax reduction ends. You will need to check the rules for your local Authority. There's no definition of deprivation of capital. Providing you don't buy the most expensive things it should be ok. Buying things for your home should be ok. I'd advise you to keep receipts for the items you buy just incase they ask questions when you come to claim UC in the future.1

Thank you. I want to do things right. I hadn't thought about the reduction, I'll look into it. Thank you so much for your help.0

Once the money goes into your bank and you ring ESA you can ask them if any part of it is contributions based.
