I'm a disabled student who has been receiving housing benefit for the past 3 years while in dorms (Sheffield). I've just moved out and need to report change of circumstances. I'm moving into rented accommodation on the 1st of October(Ashford Kent), but living at my mothers until then(Also Ashford Kent), what is the best way to go about this? as this is my first time doing this so a little nervous and not wanting to mess it up.

Many thanks for the help,

Mitch

Your housing benefit will end because you no longer have any liability to pay any rent. You will not be entitled to help with the rent while living with your mother.

When you move on 1st October unless you'll be living in either supported or temporary housing then you'll need to claim Universal Credit for help with any rent. This will then end any Income Related benefits you may already be claiming 2 weeks after you claim UC.
I would appreciate it if members wouldn't tag me please. I have all notifcations turned off and wouldn't want a member thinking i'm being rude by not replying.
If i see a question that i know the answer to i will try my best to help.

@poppy123456 even if I inform them with the new tenancy agreement for the new address for when I move to it on October 1st? Is there no way they can pause the claim till then? I'm worried about the whole Universal credit situation, as I don't want it to effect all my other benefits as they're all on legacy still and I can't afford to live if they were to stop suddenly

They can't just "pause" the housing benefit. As you have no liability to pay rent it will now end and you can't reclaim it.

Which benefits other than housing benefit are you claiming exactly?

Edit to add, even if you were moving straight into your new home rather than live with your mum, you wouldn't be able to claim housing benefit again anyway. This is because you'll be moving to a different local Authority so a claim for UC would be needed for help with any rent.
