I am Ijaz Ahmad from Afghanistan, a polio-infected person, paralyzed with my right leg, and both of my legs are weak but the right one is not functioning. I am bound to stick and splint my leg. Currently, I am a newly enrolled student at the University of Greenwich as MA international business student. I fled from Afghanistan due to life threat issues as currently ongoing crises in Afghanistan. I have been through a very tough time and challenges in my life being a disabled person. I have come to the UK to make my life better through education but right now my situation is more critical due to university tuition fees and also accommodation fees. I am struggling with my life. I am searching here to get any possible support and got to know about the scope. I am not having enough food as well and it is dificult for me to move around due to my disability. However, I request you to guide me about my eligibility for PIP or any other support for me as I have already applied for Asylum as well.
Thank You,

    Hi I’m Michelle 👋

if you call 0800 917 2222 and request a new claim form. When you receive the form you need to answer each question explaining how your disability effects you day to day. Gather as much evidence (all letters from drs, specialists and hospitals they will have things on record about your disabilities) Send copies of these with the form you have filled in to the address given on the envelope supplied by them with your form. And they will be intouch with you advising if they need to do an assessment if you do they with go through all of the questions asking again how your disabilities affect you day to day and they will write up a report and send it to a decision maker who will decide if your entitled to pip and at what rate.

Regarding to medical support if you ask you gp or medical professionals and they will be able to point you in the right direction for the support that you will benefit from. Scope admins will be able to help regarding the support that they have to offer.

    Good luck 🍀 x

You say you've applied for Asylum, what is your current immigration status? If you've only recently moved to the UK then you may not be able to claim PIP because you need to be living in the UK for 2 out of the past 3 years.

You won't be able to claim any benefits without a National Insurance number. There's some information about refugees and Asylum seekers here. https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/immigration/asylum-and-refugees/after-you-get-refugee-status/

This is a complicated situation and you really need to get some expert help and advice from an advice agency near you. https://advicelocal.uk/

Yea, I have claimed asylum but I am here on legal visa. I have been issued BRP, student card, national disability card, National Insurance Number as well. It’s been around three months I am living UK. But I  new to this country and I do not have enough information about the what sort of support and benefits that I can get as disabled person. Moreover, I want to pursue my study in masters degree but the university does not support me in term of tuition fees and accommodation. That is the main challenge that i going through. I achieved high grades in my course work and I have keen interest in my course as future career. Being disabled person I cannot do any physical work.

    Hello @Ijaz

Welcome to the community! :) I hope you are well today?

I see community members have signposted with help financially, I was concerned to read that you are not having enough food.

Struggling to get the food you need must be really tough. We have a page on accessing free food and food banks, which you might find helpful to read. This includes some information on getting free or cheap food without a referral, as well as a with a referral.

Have you spoken to your GP or local authority about the problems you've been having getting enough food?

Thank you for your help. I actually applied for asylum and student of the university at the same time. I am also a disabled person which I cant do work and due this issue, I am not able to manage my tuition fee. I am really interested in my degree and I got great grades in my modules. I do not want to leave the study incomplete and it is my dream to complete it but due to being unable to pay the fee, the university will withdraw my enrollment which is the biggest risk to me. I am also in contact with my gp about my health condition but the process takes long time. I feel alone and helpless in this sense. additionally overthinking and depression reduced my sleeping hours as well. The adequate food is not available to me as well as I am not working so i am not able to buy the food i need.
    thank you,

Whether you're entitled to any benefits will depend on your immigration status. You said you've applied for asylum, have you been given refugee status?
There's help and support for asylum seekers with asylum support. See link. https://www.gov.uk/asylum-support/what-youll-get
Your situation is extremely complex and it's difficult to advise. What you need really is advice from an expert. To check if there's an advice agency near you see this link. https://advicelocal.uk/welfare-benefits
