Hiya

I have recently had my PIP assessment for Dyslexia and just awaiting a decision. Could anyone tell me how soon I could expect to hear back from DWP. They've sent me the generic text to let me know they've received my report.

Claimed: 01 April
Assessment: 01 August
DWP received report 01 August
Decision...?

    Hi River,

Not just yet. I'm most likely just going to forget about it for the time being as I'll end up getting myself anxious! What date was yours? Will let you know soon as

Oh really, yes that's rather a long time period. From your timeliness it looks like I will hear back from them this month or early Sept with a result

update. Spoke with the PIP team today to get a copy of my report. They also advised that my claim was rejected. Any advice? I did an online assessment for each point and already understand from what I told the lady that I should have been awarded the daily living component at minimum

If you mean you did the PIP self test then this isn't relaible at all unless you fully understand the PIP descriptors and what they mean. Few people do.

You can challenge the decision by first requesting the Mandatory Reconsideration. (MR) You should put this in writing stating where and why you think you should have scored those points. When you filled out the form if you didn't give a couple of real world examples of what happened the last time you attempted each descriptor that applies to you then you should do that. You also need to add detailed information such as where you were, what exactly happened, did anyone see it and what the consequences are.

Timescales for MR decisions are up to 12 weeks. The most likely outcome will be the decision doesn't change. If this happens you can proceed to Tribunal.

You don't need the assessment report to request the MR. Concentrating wholly on this will not get you a PIP award. It's fine to point out a couple of obvious errors but then put it to one side and forget about it.

@Nay777 sorry to hear that. Don’t give up! They made their decision really fast haven’t they?! That was less than 2 weeks!

Sometimes decisions are made quicker than others. There was a couple of members here in the last couple of days where they had a decision within 3 days of their assessment. Same happened to me back in 2016.

@river123 thank you. They did, in fact the man I spoke to gave me a date of 02 August which is the day after I received the text about them receiving my report! It's alright, I will be going for the MR following advice on here, just waiting for them to send the results next week and take it from there. Judging by the types of questions they ask etc it's clear that they almost try and catch you out on certain things to mark you down. As an example I remember the lady saying "so when you use a microwave to heat your meals" which I had to correct her becsuse I didn't tell her I used a microwave! Waiting for my results to come back to do as poppy/ another gentleman advised and respond to the descriptors with clear examples of how they affect me/ what happened the last time I tried to do it. Then I will see what happens, as whatever will be will be. I've struggled for a very long time now and if reaching out for help doesn't work then back to the struggle it'll be!

I done a change in circumstances form an I had my assessment last Sunday I have just received my report as requested it the day after my assessment and by looking at the descriptors on what my assessor has scored me on I won’t be getting an award and I will be loosing my original award! I am not happy about this one bit as from what she’s wrote in there just isn’t the case. Do any of you know if the decision makers could go agains the assessor? I have scored 6 on daily living and 4 on mobility.. I was already receiving standard on daily living and my award was currently untill 2028 but looks like I’m going to loose it now.

Mostly they go with the report but not always, they have been known to go against it but it's rare. Before you reported changes did you get some expert advice? A worsening of condition doesn't automatically entitle you to more points for a higher award.

Hi @poppy123456 No I didn’t get any expert advise other than my nurse talking to me about going in for pip.. my symptoms have changed and doing my day to day activities have changed for the worse. I mainly was trying for mobility as having a major operation recently has made my mobility go down hence why I done a change in circumstances form.. I’m beginning to regret applying again now as I feel I may loose my current award by going of my assessment report. do you no if it’s been known for people to loose there current award after a change in circumstances? Thanks in advance
