Hi I'm Tash single parent with 12 year old with high functioning autism and learning difficulties.
She masks everything at school and I get the behaviour at home. The problem I have that breaks me because I don't know to help is friendships. She's just started high school and made no friends. The children in out area don't acknowledge her and when they do they are horrible to her.when she was in primary school she had some friends until they left in year 3 and not had any since. She very vulnerable. Can some please give me advice

Hi @DC_Mum. You have done so well to reach out to us today. As a fellow autistic, one of the main things I struggled with throughout school was friendships. I would say, you unfortunately can't force friendships - as isolating as this could be (and often is). I found a comfortable and safe space more important. This reduces the bullying and feelings of worthlessness/overall vulnerability.
Have you been able to reach out to the school about your concerns? They may have comfortable and safe spaces or groups they can recommend. My most memorable one was the library. For example, there are often groups where children are supported by staff because they have similar needs. Other than that, it would just be about facilitating clubs/hobbies your daughter is interested in (if any!)1
