Good afternoon to you all, just wanted some info about a disabled bus pass would I be able to apply for one as I got my award letter through the post this morning it's been nearly 5 weeks of waiting for this letter so finally I can see the points and what I scored on daily living I scored 8 points and for mobility I scored 10 points so would that entitle me for a freedom disabled bus pass ? I haven't read up on any of this myself sorry to say but prefer getting real advice from experts on here .. and also does it matter in what area you live in ? I'm in North London area at the moment
Thank you in advance 🙏😊

Depends what area. Blue badge is quite difficult to get in my area. No harm in applying.0

Hi @Tina12 congratulations on finally getting your award through! That must be a huge relief?
I've moved your post to a different category, so hopefully someone more in the know will be able to give you a more definitive answer.
From what I've read online, if you can't get the Freedom pass, you may be entitled to a 'discretionary freedom pass' which may be helpful?
I'm sure a Londoner will be able to help you more in a bit though.1 -
Hi @Tina12 - if I remember rightly you already have a Blue Badge.
I've had a look for you about the Freedom Pass & eligibility which you can see here: https://www.londoncouncils.gov.uk/services/freedom-pass/disabled-persons-freedom-pass/eligibility
Then you contact your council by phone or email, & you can see this here: https://www.londoncouncils.gov.uk/services/freedom-pass/disabled-persons-freedom-pass/applyThe only one of the councils where I can see any further info says, ''You will automatically qualify for a Freedom Pass if you have been awarded at least 8 points of the ‘Moving Around’ activity of the mobility component or the ‘Communicating’ activity of the daily living component [for PIP]''I presume each council may have different rules, but hoping your PIP award may help.0 -
Hi @Tina12
Fellow Londoner checking in! Looks like you've had some great advice so far
Many local authorities will accept from 8 points upwards for mobility or certain communication difficulties, so you should stand a good chance of being eligible based on your PIP result. But as chiarieds mentioned, each local authority is slightly different, so it's definitely worth checking out the links they've posted above to see what the requirements are for your area. The list of local authorities is probably the best place to start.
Some places may accept your PIP decision letter as enough evidence for a pass, but others might also want some recent medical reports to support your application. You'll also need proof of address and some kind of ID, but the application forms will list which bits and pieces you'll need to apply.
If you're not sure which local authority you fall under, you can pop your postcode into this council tax checker: Check your Council Tax band - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) It'll show up on the right hand side of the table.
Let us know how you get on and give us a shout if you need any help figuring it all out1 -
@chiarieds thankyou so much and hello fellow Londoner 😁🙌0

I actually haven't even filled the form in lol. I honestly just wanted to see if I was eligible and was sent forms to fill in and haven't bothered since then. That's just me you should send an email and ask for the forms if you haven't already got them, goodluck @Tina121
