Hi
my daughter is in year 6. She has a diagnoses of adhd, she has a paediatrician and is on medication. She is under the senco in school. We are waiting for an Assesment for autism also.

She struggles in school as the work has got harder (she is a few years behind) and she struggles with emotions and friendships. If her only best friend is not in she is on her own and takes herself off to the library. Her dad died when she was two and that affects her as-well though she has had grief counselling. She has had many assessments from speech and language.
We had a chat with the senco this morning and it’s unlikely that she will get in a sen school (with funding and how hard it is these days) but to chat to the senco at chosen mainstream schools and go from there. She is close to getting a SSPP which I personally have been saying for a few years to the senco but is only doing it now. She has also been bullied in school.
I have to choose a secondary school by next month and would just like some advice really. I feel my daughter is going to struggle a lot.

I spoke to the teacher today. She doesn’t have a teaching assistant in class anymore. (She did last year) because of funding. Her teacher is having to juggle everything with a few other Sen.0

Hi @redroses91, sorry no one has been able to offer any advice so far.
How are you and your daughter getting on?0 -
It's concerning that the school has had to remove the teaching assistant due to funding issues, especially when support is essential for children with special educational needs. When selecting a secondary school, inquire about their available support resources, even if they are facing similar funding challenges. It's crucial to find a school that can provide your daughter with the necessary assistance and understanding to help her thrive academically and emotionally.

@Rosie_Scope - it’s ok and we went to an opening evening about a month ago now and I instantly knew It was the school for my daughter. The Sen team seem amazing and they even have an adhd and autism so there is a team not just one and they converse with her paediatric team when they need to which is just beyond amazing tbh. We have put it down as first choice but I am worried she won’t get in. Her teacher has been honest and said she won’t pass SATS so now am worried will secondary school look at that and write her off and just worried for her really.
( but can’t find out until March.
@EDDad8 - this concerns me to as we had it for the past few years even if it was for 4 days a week. Her teacher now knows nothing about adhd or autism or anything but is trying her best with what she’s got and has moved my daughter into a higher group and this has made her thrive in some areas within her work. I don’t know if the other classes do have a TA or it’s just year 6 that’s affected. I get different answers each time. I’m just hoping she gets in the school we have chosen it’s spot on for her needs.0 -
Sounds like it'll be a frustrating wait, but fingers crossed they can offer her a space at your chosen school. I hope you're both doing okay in the meantime, it's not easy at all when the support just isn't there.
Keep us updated

Keep us updatedI found a “letter to Santa” on my daughter’s desk saying how much she misses her dad and how she wants him back and loved him (he died when she was two). She has had grief counselling which was play therapy but i felt it was more “play” for her and they discharged her after a good two years as the therapist felt she had come as far as she could with the grief which was fair enough but she is struggling with it. I have reassured her we can talk anytime and we are her for her (me, family etc..).0
