PIP/DWP moving goalposts?

Like many others on here i have been waiting quite a long time to find out the result of a PIP renewal claim form i sent in many moons ago.About two months ago i received a letter from the DWP telling me that there is still a backlog and that my PIP award will be automatically extended intil Sept 2024,due to the DWP still not being able to have a look at my claim form..However,despite the DWP informing me that i will be paid until Sept 2024 i did, only last week, receive a text telling me that my PIP renewal form had been looked at,a decision has been made, and i will find out the decision in about 2 weks time....I know that the DWP are very amateurish at the best of times, but still,i wonder if anybody else has had anything similar to this happen to them?..I find it all very stressful and incredible that they have changed their minds about the Sept 2024 date  to be honest.

Hey @jw68, I can really understand your stress levels right now, I'm so sorry!

I received a text stating they had the huge backlog etc etc. But mine said nothing about a date of extension, only that I would still be paid my PIP at the usual rate until they had made a decision about the renewal.  Does your letter state until Sept 2024, or up to Sept 2024?

Hi @jw68 we don't offer phone support I'm afraid, sorry! I'd say your best bet would be calling the DWP on the number on previous letters, as they may be able to help clarify the situation more?

Maybe someone else in this community will be able to advise better?

Hi @jw68 - many claimants have been sent an extension letter, & the DWP then hope to complete a PIP review before that time. This so a claimant's PIP doesn't stop, & it just carries on until you get a decision.
Even before all the backlogs with PIP, reviews especially, the DWP could review a claim at any time.
We have in the past seen people get an extension, then within a couple of days receive a review form which needs completing. So, it's nothing unusual.
Just think if you were awarded a higher rate of PIP with a review, would you want your current award to stay at it's lower rate? So it is fair, & some will end up better off, some worse, & some just the same.

That's a standard text sent to a lot of people waiting for review decisions. It doesn't mean anything other than what it says.  You can ring PIP to ask what the decision was and they will tell you. Other than that you can just wait for the decision letter.
