I’m trying to help I friend recently who had a stroke which took the use of her left arm (and leg but that’s not the issue here). She needs some aids in her kitchen to help in daily food prep etc and I wondered if anyone had recommendations for chopping veg, spreading bread, opening cans and jars with one hand? I’m not sure that the feedback on sites like Amazon is that reliable, or that the things that claim to be one-hand operation truly are. Thanks in anticipation.

Hi @Viv2 - welcome to the community, & thank you for joining in order to help your friend. I think the following is a good site to look at. I've also bought from here with confidence, as I know some others have. What I like about this site (there are of course others) is that most items have VAT relief (which won't be found on Amazon), & many are recommended by occupational therapists. To my mind, they're on the whole reasonably priced, an important consideration when trying things out, to see what works the best for an individual.
Now this might seem a bit back to front, but when I trained as a physiotherapist, altho we were based in a large city hospital, there were no occupational therapists, so we had a large Aids to Daily Living unit just outside the physio department, & we were fortunate to receive some training in occupational therapy too, so I do understand about some disability aids.
There's a simple declaration that you do on this site, just to say you have a disability to get the VAT relief.
One thing I can't personally recommend is anything to open a jar one-handed, as I feel, but yes, you need your other hand to hold the jar! I would often be stuck if my son didn't live nearby, as I have a partially dropped right wrist, so only weaker. I'm also unsure how a one handed can opener might work as illustrated on this site (tho they might, but I've not tried them) tho I did on the nth thing attempt find this, which is brilliant, I can even use it with my weaker hand: https://www.lakeland.co.uk/18109/chefn-ez-squeeze-can-opener
    Hope some of this helps.

Thanks. For future reference, how do I know which category to use/access please?

Not a problem at all @Viv2, if you look in the top left of the screen, you'll see the categories header, click on there, choose which one looks correct and post away!

If it's not in the right one, don't worry at all, one of us will notice and can move it over. ;)
