We are thinking about hosting a Pumpkin Carving Competition!
But we wanted to get a feel from the community to see if it is something you'd take part in? The winner would receive a £20 Amazon voucher.

I would struggle to carve my own but would be interested in looking at other peoples pumpkins.1

I would love this I do one just about every year1

@Hannah_Scope
You know I speak forthright, I'm the unofficial, non spokesperson for the unknown group, The Anti Pumpkin Carving Non Group, not all pumpkins are equal, they contain different quantity of seeds.0 -
How about a second prize (or a joint first) for the person who describes and posts pics of what they did with the insides of the pumpkin? Pumpkin soup or pumpkin pie or something like that. Plant some seeds and by next year you've grown one
I'm not great with knives so wouldn't be carving anything and the seeds inside a fruit like that makes me shudder to see them. I think it's a form of trypophobia. Ugh.0 -
@Lottie1732 that is a brilliant idea for those of us who struggle with knives / mess or whatever other reasons we have for not being able to carve our own pumpkins!0
-
Can't we have a reverse winner, you declare a winner and then they can spend the next 365 days of the year carving a pumpkin. One of my better ideas.2

An excellent idea. I declare you the reverse winner!
Now do we say one pumpkin a day for a year, or one pumpkin for the whole year?0 -
Yes, I'm really liking @Lottie1732s idea too.0

I love butternut Squash but cutting it is a totally different thing and it drives me insane. I can't even imagine carving one0 -
My daughter mentioned carving a pumpkin the other day but the only issue is, she's terrible with knives... there's no way would i be able to stand next to her and watch0

Can I plead for the lowly prize of an exemption from any future pumpkin carving contests (or a virtual cup of coffee in the 'Coffee lounge') for the worst idea ever of something to put a candle inside for Hallowe'en.I was away on holiday when my Mum sent me a letter saying she'd bought some of the recommended books that I needed for my course, but drew the line on coming home on the bus with a half set of human bones! You've guessed it, I also had to buy a skull.....so, I put a lighted candle inside, as there were hinges on either side of the skull so you could lift off the top.I put it on my glass-topped dressing table, & was sat there in the dark 'admiring' the effect, when my Mum walked in! Oh, was I told off.Back to pumpkins, where did this come from? Please see: https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/history-lesson-why-do-we-carve-pumpkins/So, I feel, rebel11 can carve a butternut squash (a new tradition perhaps), turnip, potato, etc.

@chiarieds I'd have loved that skull lamp haha. Excellent use of uni materials.0

I believe turnips were very common, I think pumpkins became the "norm" because they're the largest gourd you can easily get that is easy/able to be carved.0
-
O.K. the challenge is to paint a face on a pumpkin seed.0
-
Can we also carve as well @Hannah_Scope0
-
I'm taking all these amazing ideas in and have had a thought.
Would everyone like it if we just called it our "Pumpkin Competition" and members submit their Pumpkin Craft? So it can open up to carving a pumpkin, painting a pumpkin on a pumpkin seed, doing a digital art piece of a pumpkin, knitting a pumpkin, a dressed pumpkin or a painted pumpkin if you don't want to or are not able to carve?
What do you think?2 -
