Llamamumma

Hi all, so I received txt 6th October saying no decision made yet, 9th October phone call asking to verify bank details, I. Phoned today to verify call. He took bank details, but said a letter has been sent but he couldn't tell me decision. I was thinking good news, but now not to sure.

If the decision has only been made today then it takes up to 24 hours for it to show on the system. Try ringing tomorrow and they will be able to see it.

Sorry to ask, if a letter has been sent out today, how long do people usually have to wait for it to arrive.

It can take a few days for the letters to arrive, all depending on the postal service. But as Poppy has said, you can call them tomorrow to get an idea of the decision.  I'm keeping everything crossed for you.  Can you keep us updated and let us know how you get on please?

Yes certainly will, I don't like to call about these things, one making calls makes me very anxious, but I don't feel like I'm important enough to take up their time. I'll just wait for the letter, I will let you know when it arrives, thank you so much for your reply.

Just so that you're aware, those few days could be anything up to a couple of weeks. I just don't want you panicking if you haven't received it within those few days.

Did the child element stop because they have ended full time education?

Yes, only half my message went through, they are looking for a job, but they also suffer with mental health issues

Thankfully I was awarded Lcwra, so not as bad as it could be.

If they are not currently working and are no longer a student then they can claim UC in their own right. 

If their health condition limits their capability to work they can report their health condition, supported by a fit note and go through the WCA like you did. 

Unfortunately our children leaving education happens to all of us. Though, I agree that losing that extra money does make it even more difficult to manage financially.

Hey @Llamamumma, sorry to hear you didn't get an award. There are a lot of steps to go onto though, so don't give up hope. I know this can be pretty devastating but the community is here to support you.

When you feel up to it I would begin writing out a Mandatory Reconsideration letter, it's the first step to appealing the decision. Citizen's Advice has a good informational page about it, take your time with it. You have time to send it in. Hopefully we can help you get what you're entitled to!

To be honest, Jimm_Scope, I don't think I can,  I have not eaten anything for 3 days and have had a migraine for 5 days. I just do it again.

Take your time to think things over, there's no rush. Although they tell you that you have 1 month to request the MR, you actually have 13 months.

If you're outside of the 1 month timeframe then you need to make sure you tell them why you didn't request it within that time. If they refuse, you just proceed to Tribunal.

If you do decide to go ahead with the MR you should put that request in writing, please do not ring to request it. If you didn't give a couple of real world incidents of exactly what happened the last time you attempted each descriptor you think applies then you should do that for this stage.

Adding detailed information such as where you were, what exactly happened, did anyone see it and what the consequences were.

I know it's really hard to see a way forward after a rejection @Llamamumma, but tribunals do have a high success rate. 

Take your time, you have many months to hand in your MR and then your tribunal if the MR is not successful. Focus on your mental health at first, getting yourself in a place where you are eating and looking after yourself. You can get help in sending in the MR and also help on a tribunal if it comes to it. There's support and help out there for you to do this, you don't have to do it alone.
