Sounds like it's the Cost of Living payment that was paid between 20th June and 4th July. You qualified for this if you received or later received a payment for a disability benefit like PIP/DLA/AA or ADP on or before 1st April 2023. This means you must have applied for PIP on or before that date.

Hi all, I do apologize, I am a little confused about the back pay from PIP.

When i applied, my claim date was from Feb this year, I swapped over from DLA and yet to get my first payment, as my DLA ends on 7th Nov, and I'm due my first PIP on 29th November. However, I have attempted to call to ask about the back pay from Feb, but can never get through. Does anyone know how long this usually takes before that reaches your bank from when you receive the decision text and award letter?

    Many thanks

When moving over from DLA you don't get backdated from PIP even if the new award is higher. DLA continues for 4 weeks after a decision is made and PIP starts approximately 7 weeks after the decision. You will get a letter that explains more.

See, that's what confuses me, as I've been told that I should get paid from the date I claimed from, even if i was on DLA at the time. So that's left me confused even more, as i spoke to DLA about it, and they said i should get paid from the date I claimed, PIP are impossible to get hold of and I've had a mixture of responses about getting the back pay from the claim date.

    hope that makes sense.

That's not correct and is a good reason why you should never phone a benefits number for advice. If you would of applied for PIP with no DLA award in place, you would be backdated. However, DLA to PIP has special rules which mean DLA continues for 4 weeks after a PIP decision is made, awarded or not and doesn't come with backpay.

When phoning any DWP benefit, you are actually speaking to an outsourced call centre who have very limited knowledge of the benefits system.

Ah, that makes sense now yeah, thank you. I was confused as I've had multiple people who claimed from DLA to PIP said they got a back pay and others didn't, so it just kinda got me very confused.

Thank you for clearing that up for me

Those people who told you they received money owed when transferring from DLA to PIP were incorrect. There's never been any money owed when tranferring across since PIP was introduced 10 years ago.
