Dehumidifiers... Another Weird Question....

Another one of my weird questions.
My heated airer has packed up which I use for drying my clothes in the bad weather.
I was looking at replacing this airer, but I heard Martin Lewis Money Saving Expert a few months ago mention using a dehumidifier instead of a tumble dryer.
Does anyone on this forum use a dehumidifier, but more importantly use it to dry your laundry?
Any helpful advice is appreciated.
