Why is it that able bodied people feel awkward talking to a disabled person? Do people not realise that we are the same as them but just with a brain injury. A brain injury could happen to them at any time?

@Stickman , I myself would talk to a disabled person as kindly as I would a person who wasn't disabled. Some people are very ignorant. Sending hugs.0

@Stickman I sometimes wonder if they have ever had someone who was in their life with a disability. I think that can sometimes make it harder for them to talk. Especially if they lost them in a horrible way. Or in the reverse, some people may not have had anyone in their life with a disability and some may feel unable to talk because they may fear "putting their foot in their mouth", so to speak.
But I also do agree with Strawberry1, that some people are just rude and ignorant.1 -
I like what you wrote @Hannah_Scope, you wrote it so much better than me .0

Yes, BUT, everyone has a disability - no matter how big or how small.

Have people's values changed?????? I don't really know . Sorry 🙏.1

I don't know why people don't talk to someone with a disability. Personally I'm a chatter box, so I talk to everyone. I make a point of talking to the person in the wheel chair instead of just the person pushing it, as I know lots of people tend to talk to the pusher and ignore the person in the chair.3

@Sandy_123 I also chat to everyone, I can talk for England 😂 I do sometimes feel wary talking to people with illness's like Alzheimer's. I tend to ask if there is anything out of bounds as I know from experience. They sometimes can't believe they are living in xyz or that so and so has passed away. So sad.1

No I natter to those too, there's no off limits for my intrusions lol. People seem to warm to me, telling me about their stories. I've sat on park benches talking to strangers, I know, that's sounds weird. Bus stops, drs, dentists. Coffee shops, anywhere i am1

Haha! That's lovely though
I can see why they would warm to you

Because sometimes I feel like giving up on disability, and wish I wasn't disabled.0

I have issues with my back which makes me walk differently and someone was looking at me and laughed. Some people eh .0

I've always said "Treat everyone as a friend, until they give you a reason not too."
