Mobility pip high score / daily low

Good morning.  I have been reading many threads on this forum this year for help and support   it has been much appreciated.

Wanted to ask a question to see if there was any advice.

I have had agoraphobia for over a year. Very acute social anxiety.  All documented with gp.  Numerous medications etc. Stress anxiety ,all the things that go with it.

I applied for pip.  Fairly painless process.

I scored 10 on mobility and 2 on the daily element.  Which I thought was fairly odd. Especially given my total inability to cope in social settings or with other humans.

I plan to do a MR as soon as I get my letter, breaking down each descriptor and how they screwed me.

I was just wondering if it was common for people to score high on the mobility but very low on the daily.  Seems like its probably quite hard to do....

Many thanks

Hello @defdean343, welcome to the community! I'm glad you've found it useful so far.

Sorry to hear your pip claim hasn't been reflective of your struggles. I've popped your post over to our PIP section where it can be seen by our members with similar experiences. Hopefully they'll be along shortly to offer some advice and support, but I just wanted to say hello and welcome.

The assessments can vary a lot depending on a number of factors, but it does sound like a good idea to break down the descriptors and how they relate to your conditions for your MR. I hope your letter arrives soon :)

Hi @defdean343 - & welcome to the community. It just looks to me that your problems with 'following & planning a journey' where better understood from your claim form & assessment than your difficulty socialising.
Remember PIP is not about any diagnosis, but rather how your disability affects certain activities of daily living &/mobility the majority of the time.
With your MR, which you should put in writing, you should say where you think you should have got points, & why giving a couple of recent, detailed examples as to the difficulty you face for each applicable descriptor, i.e. when did it happen, where, what happened, did anyone see this, & were there any consequences to attempting/doing an activity?
Say if you can't do an activity 'reliably,' i.e. safely, to an acceptable standard, repeat as often as one would reasonably expect, or if it takes you much longer than someone without a disability.
You may find this website helpful (altho it's about filling in your form, it's still relevant): https://www.mentalhealthandmoneyadvice.org/en/welfare-benefits/pip-mental-health-guide/help-with-your-pip-claim/how-to-fill-in-the-pip-form/
Concentrate on your decision letter rather than your assessment report, which you should put to one side; you're disagreeing with the decision, not the assessor's report. Put your name & National Insurance number on each page. Keep a copy, & get a free Certificate of Posting from your Post Office when sending it off.

That seems to be great advice thankyou.  I'm going to take my time (but well within the 1 month advised) and try and get it right.

Though I see that as few as 12% get a better outcome following MR. But I'm willing to take it to tribunal if needed.

As said, I just thought it was super odd to score so highly on the mobility, but so low on the daily.  I didn't expect the enhanced rate, and wouldn't deplete my limited energy chasing it. I really felt i was very clear regarding human interaction and that there would be enough overlap that it would be simple enough (having read the criteria and descriptors).

I guess I should feel lucky that I even got the mobility lol.

I will apply your advice when chasing it down, ty

The 'success' rate for MRs is currently 23%, still not great, but some must see a better award! The success rate with a tribunal is a much better 68%. You do actually have up to 13 months to do a MR, but you need to have a good reason if it's later than one month. Good luck.

Still waiting for the letter from my recent review but i have been upgraded from standard mobility to enhanced rate but no award for the daily living part so yes its possible to score high on mobility but low on daily living. Obviously until I receive the letter I wont know exactly what I scored and where.

In all fairness I'm fine with what I've been awarded because most of my problems do revolve around mobility so all in all I think i got a fair assessment.

    Hello again.  Just to update;
I received the detailed letter today. Was quite anxious as I felt I might take the details of the unfavourable outcome personally, in that they would feel like personal attacks.

In truth it just clearly is, or seems to be (to me), an indifferent person ticking off columns impartially / objectively.

So I will just need to tackle it point by point over the next week.  It does seem as though much of what I said was ignored, but I will do a MR countering each point with clearer examples.

What I do find bemusing is I score 10 on mobility "unable to conduct any journey anxiety / distress" etc.  But 2 and only 2 on the daily living "I can socially engage face to face with encouragement".  They are very clearly interconnected.

    Just seems really counter intuitive.

But ultimately I was afraid it would feel very personal, but it does not 👍

I feel much more comfortable challenging now so thankyou for the advice and support.  I will update with the result

Good morning.  I was hoping someone might have the answer to a question.  I've looked all over the interwebs and answer is murky at best.

I will be posting off my MR paperwork in the next couple of days.

I currently have been awarded the mobility element of pip.

Will this payment stop once they have received my MR request? (While they review)

    Many thanks

Your current award will continue until a decision is made on your MR. It's also very unlikely that your award would decrease by asking for a MR.

They did the same to me, agreed that I couldn't go out due to distress but said I could mix with people which is a tad silly considering the reason that I don't go out much is because I'm agoraphobic which is pretty much to do with people, I also have social phobia among other things.

Many people drive and claim PIP,
myself included and it’s never affected my claim.

Sometimes it can be one of the standard copy and paste reasons for not awarding points in some descriptors though.

@Kerrie2k if I may ask, what was your eventually outcome?
