As I've seen some of you on the community late at night, I thought I'd make a thread so you can all chat to each other if the Sandman decides not to visit you. :)

Anyone else have issues going to or staying asleep? Anyone have any remedies for insomnia?

This is such a nice idea :)

If I'm struggling to sleep I sometimes use YouTube sleep meditation videos. I just leave them running on my phone beside me at the lowest volume that I can. They don't always work, but it's nice and relaxing and I find it's better to listen to something than lie awake thinking. If you do a quick search on YouTube, there are lots of them available. Boring bedtime stories for adults can be pretty good as well!

Sending sleepy vibes to you all tonight, hope you manage to get some shut-eye, or at least enjoy the night-time chats!

I'm a huge fan of just having an hour long YouTube documentary on when I try to sleep.  As long as there's no loud bangs or crashes, just someone with a relaxing voice talking can really help, you're totally right.

Haha, sorry @chiarieds, I'll be logging off for the evening soon.  But I'm in all day tomorrow, so watch out!  :D

Yes @Ada I found Amitriptyline stops having the snoozy effects after a fair while on them.  I was on them years back and I'm back on them again now, luckily they currently make me sleepy enough to eventually drift off.  Is your GP not able to advise on some other suggestions for sleep aids?  We of course can't give any medical advice.

I couldn't listen to audiobooks to try and sleep, I was always too focused on the story so I'd just stay awake.  :s

I often recommend trying diaphragmatic/abdominal breathing; something we should all do anyway. Watch a baby/infant breathing, & they automatically do this. As adults, we almost have to relearn this. What this link doesn't say is that this helps reduce stress, &/pain, & aids relaxation. I use this all the time, but am especially mindful about thinking about my breathing as I try to go to sleep, just eventually letting my breathing rate slow (I don't count my breaths as I find that counterproductive). It's a good idea to practice this during the day to get the hang of it before trying to do so when hoping to go to sleep. Then you can practice this in any position that's comfortable to you, lying on your back or side, etc. (a pillow under your knees isn't needed).

I'm up until 2am +, go to bed & read for a while, until I'm sleepy. Never asleep for long as the pain gets too much & I have to turn every 20 odd minutes. I normally get 3-4 hours broken sleep. Used to it now, it's how it is.
