Hello all.
In a few months time I am due to receive an inheritance after a close family member has passed away. I think i'm currently claiming the income related ESA. My savings after the inheritance will be over £6000 thus pushing me over the £6000 savings threshold. What is the procedure for reporting this to the DWP? Is there a form to fill in else is there a number to ring? Any help and advice would be appreciated

You will need to ring ESA and any other benefits that are means tested, such as housing benefit and council tax reduction. Income Related ESA contact number is.
    Telephone: 0800 169 0310
    Textphone: 0800 169 0314
Relay UK (if you cannot hear or speak on the phone): 18001 then 0800 169 0310
British Sign Language (BSL) video relay service if you’re on a computer - find out how to use the service on mobile or tablet
    Welsh language: 0800 169 0207 Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm

You will need to tell them how much savings you have. There will be a deduction of £1/week for every £250 or part thereof over £6,000. If you have more than £16,000 then entitlement to all means tested benefits will end.

For council tax reduction some local Authorities have a maximum savings limit of £6,000 before entitlement ends.
