Advice needed regarding claiming travelling expenses for NHS treatment

I haven't tried claiming travelling expenses (bus fare) yet for NHS treatment, because I didn't realise that I could. What's the general procedure please? The thing is, when I travel on the bus to go to my NHS dentist, sometimes I'm not given a physical ticket any more. What happens when that happens? Thanks a lot.

It is generally only for Hospital appointments. Accessing primary NHS services (such as GP or dentist), doesn't qualify unless it's a secondary referral (such as dentist referring you to dental hospital).
You can either get a cash refund on the day, or apply afterwards using an HC5 form.
Proof will be needed in the form of tickets especially for claims via post, can you ask the driver for a ticket if one isn't issued automatically? Alternatively an App screen could be shown if claiming in person.
