Hi Poppy, Is this still the case in December 2024. Previously I was claiming LCWRA and Carers Allowance. My UC/LCWRA that I would get say e.g - £400pm after receiving Carers Allowance for e.g - £200pm
UC shows we are paying you Cares Allowance £200pm and UC £200pm equals back to £400pm but they do state that “we are paying you Care Allowance” and deduct the £200 from my £400 which I’m left with £200 UC and £200 CA
Yes the same rules still apply. When claiming carers allowance (which is a separate benefit to UC) the amount deducted from UC is £354.90/month. You will then receive carers allowance as a separate payment, either weekly or 4 weekly.
If you're UC includes the LCWRA element for yourself, you can't receive carers element of UC (different to carers allowance) at the same time. In this case only the higher element is paid, which is LCWRA
Hi all,
I am new to all of this.
I claim UC and pip due to my mental health. My Son is going to be living with me as he is too aggressive towards his Mum and siblings. He is severely Autistic. He gets the higher rate of pip through his Mum at the moment, and a motability car. Would I be able to claim for these, transfer the car over to me? Also my girlfriend earns a low wage and lives with me. Would this affect my claim?
Sorry to ask so many questions, but totally bewildered what to do?
Thank you.
Assuming Mum is son's appointee, you would need to arrange to take this over:
https://www.gov.uk/become-appointee-for-someone-claiming-benefits
Motability can arrange for you to become his driver:
https://www.motability.co.uk/get-support/if-things-change/changing-a-driver/
I'm sure you know already that any car journeys must be for his benefit, either with him in the car or journeys on his behalf.
You can't use the car for your own personal use.
When he moves in you need to inform UC, if you claim Housing Element and yourself get Daily Living PIP, no non dependant deductions will be made to your Housing Element.
There will be no other impact on your PIP/UC claims.
Thank you Kimmy87,
Yes his Mum is his appointee, so will change that once he moves in. Yes I know about the criteria for his car. Thank you for your reply and help. Will look into this further.
Sorry but can I hop on here . I asked over a year ago for lcw assessment and got told by uc in my journal this "To be awarded either Limited Capability for Work or Limited Capability for Work and Work Related Assessments , need to have an illness or condition that affects their capability to work or look for work and provide fit notes until they have had an assessment.
Anyone with a health condition or disability who makes a claim for Universal Credit on or after 3 April 2017, and who is found to have limited capability for work following a Work Capability Assessment, will not get any additional payment of Universal Credit.
So which is true can I not get it cuz I applied for universal credit initially in 2019?
If you are found to have LCW, no extra money is paid.
If found to have LCWRA, extra money is often due.
The value must be greater than or equal to 1.
