It's day 2 of our 12 days of Christmas debates and I have the honour of coming up with a question for you all today.

Looking at the penguin-themed Christmas throw on our sofa, I was struck by the question: Are penguins really a Christmas animal?

Everyone know reindeer are Christmas animals, but are penguins?

I say: No.

Penguins are for every day, or at least so mine always tell me, but nearly every Christmas I get something penguin related from my children. Might be because they know I rather like penguins!

I think anything that in one way or another relates to snow has become Christmas and I'd include Penguins in that
That's a great point @woodbine. Although I'd still argue that they shouldn't be, especially given how rarely we seem to have a snowy Christmas in the UK!

At a rough estimate, how many penguin-related things would you say you own now?

I have a friend-of-the-family who is utterly obsessed with penguins

    I wonder if it's @chiarieds :o

They never mentioned being on Scope

Probably 3 dozen; everything from duvets, fleeces, cushions, & towels, a Macvities penguin biscuit jar in the shape of a penguin, mug & a glass, 2 crotcheted penguins & a needlepoint picture made by my daughter-in-law, to a door sticker warning these premises are protected by penguins, not forgetting Detroit, Finkle & Hopper in my Christmas profile pic. @Adrian_Scope

I think it's because Penguins are always seen as an arctic animal...

Arctic = north pole = Christmas?

Although funnily enough, there are 18 species of penguins and less than a quarter of them live in the arctic!

Since Santa and his elves and the reindeer live at the North Pole and penguins at the South Pole I'd say no to penguins at Christmas unless they're the chocolate biscuit variety of course. They're welcome any day.
