Bobath Cost of Living Report 2023
At the end of 2022, we surveyed people and families living with cerebral palsy (CP) on how the cost-of-living crisis had affected them over the previous 12 months. We repeated this survey in November 2023.
Things have not improved.
Our findings indicate that the CP Community is continuing to experience hardship disproportionately, due to the added on-costs associated with their disabilities. Research done by Scope confirms there is a ‘Disability Price Tag’ with the extra cost of disability equivalent to 63% of household income after housing costs.
A significant percentage of households living with CP are experiencing food and fuel insecurity. Much worse than the national average. A very high proportion of people and families are finding NHS treatment inaccessible, and private therapy unaffordable.
We repeat our call for local authorities, health services, educational establishments and employers to consider the needs of people with CP, and help alleviate their financial hardship at this time.
