Hiya my name is Tracie and although I've reading many of posts here.... This is the 1st time I'm posting myself so please forgive me if I ramble on...

I am hoping for some advice or help regarding how To word/ answer for my daughter's MR for pip.

Basically, my daughter turned 18 in Nov 2023 but due to her mental health, I've had to do her pip forms etc for her.

She applied for pip as her Bowel Disease (Ulcerative Colitis) and Anxiety Disorders (AGORAPHOBIA & Panic Disorder) has had a massive impact on her everyday living. We completed the form giving actual events as to why we feel she should qualify and included all the relevant evidence (Inc a well in-depth letter from myself) but we so disappointed when the decision letter came and showed she only qualified for the lower rate mobility. (Scoring 4 for daily living)

They have based the decision on a paper assessment and it feels like they have not taken anything that was written into account. They have made my daughter out to be someone who is perfectly fine and that her illness and disabilities don't affect her much. When in reality, she is an 18 year old who has lost all her friends as she doesn't go past the door unless absolutely has to and then it's only if I'm with her.

She has to take numerous medication that I have to keep control of. She is unable to use our cooker after almost setting the kitchen on fire (I told pip all this)

There is just so much that the pip just didn't bother to understand or take into account - I'm not letting it drop though.

Any help or advice on how to complete the MR form in the way that Pip will actually read and not see paragraphs after paragraph would be appreciated.

Thanks - Tracie

    Hello @tracie_79

    Welcome to the community! :)

I'm sorry to hear your daughter has been unwell. Fellow IBD'er here and I know how tough it can be with Ulcerative Colitis. I was housebound for 3 years because of the disease.

I would encourage you to reach out to Citizen's Advice, they have a page on Mandatory Reconsideration you may find helpful to read. I'd also encourage looking at the NHS talking therapies page. If your daughter feels it'll benefit her, she can refer herself. I did CBT and found it really helpful <3

Hi @tracie_79 - & welcome to the community from me also.
Please put your daughter's MR in writing; a letter is fine. You should say where you think she should have got points, & why giving a couple of recent, detailed examples as to the difficulty she faces for each applicable descriptor, i.e. when did it happen, where, what happened, did anyone see this, & were there any consequences to attempting/doing an activity?

Say if she can't do an activity 'reliably,' i.e. safely, to an acceptable standard, repeat as often as one would reasonably expect, or if it takes her much longer than someone without a disability.

You can read more about this, & more here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/personal-independence-payment-assessment-guide-for-assessment-providers/pip-assessment-guide-part-2-the-assessment-criteria

Put her name & National Insurance number on each page. Keep a copy, & get a free Certificate of Posting from your Post Office when sending it off.
