ESA phone assessment

Schnuffel

I got a letter this morning from the ESA people, asking me for a telephone assessment next week.I'm worried sick.Never had this done before. Before my forms and doctor letters were always enough.I suffer with multiple mental disorders and talking on a phone is not possible. My doctor told them about all that and they still want this. What questions will they ask?I'm so scared.

If you prefer face to face you can ring them to ask, the number is on the top of the letter. You may have to wait a little longer for the assessment though.

Questions they ask will really depend on how your health conditions affect you and it won't be possible to tell you what they will specifically ask. Just try not to answer any questions with just a yes or no. Doing that could mean the assessor will come to their own conclusions.

Hi @Schnuffel, as others have said, perhaps you or someone you know could ring and ask for a different type of assessment.

Have you got any supportive friends or family members that could help you get in touch with them?

Thank you for your replies.I'm on my own, only have my husband. He will answer the phone and talk to them.Due to my extreme phobias I can't ever leave the house or meet people.I have been on the sick for the last 40 years and never had to deal with this. The form and doctors letters were always enough.I have read so many bad things about assessors lying and not telling the truth about peoples illnesses. My ESA is all the money we live on,if they stop that,we will loose our council house etc because our rent gets payed.I have been sick all day with worry.I'm also diabetic with kidney and liver failure and on 20 tablets a day.

Are you able to put the phone onto loud speaker so your husband can be with you during the assessment? He will be able to support you through it.

Bad stories are more often than not related to PIP. The majority of the time it's usually good stories for the work capability assessment. The majority of people are placed into the Support Group.

Assuming he is your official appointee all arranged by DWP? Then he can speak on your behalf. Had you mentioned that earlier then i could have advised you this.
